Hi guys

Wanting to set up a firewall for my LAN, which is better out of IPcop, Smoothwall etc? ;)

moo

Smoothwall is really easy to setup...and free

IPcop, havent played with it yet...

I know my Netgear DG834G adsl router has a linux os on, with iptables on, maby u wanna try that ? centos will do the job

Thanks, actually got a DG834G, just thought Smoothwall might be easier, and if I mess it up I can just revert back to the router. :)

I've found my DG834 to do a pretty decent job out the box.

You can always disable uPnP and open only the ports you're going to need, that would be very effective IMO.

That's what I've already done, just thought I'd play around with Smoothwall, want to set up VPN functionality too.

I have been using IPcop for a while now and it works great for me. Took some time to setup my local configuration, have pc connected via wifi and local lan (6 pc's) . Have some very nice plugins to help ion the management of my lan, from traffic allowances to QOS it works very nice!

But there will be people saying smoothwall is better, to each his own I guess.
