Linux for old old 550mhz machine...

Use puppy, its got a nice gui :> Should run fine on that machine. Puppy is cool, because it supports most of the apps I use... Firefox, skype, terminal.

Thanks will try puppy - but all the damn ftp's with puppy are crawling atm - so will try dsl/puppy/some sort of slackware derivative and then decide which works best - does puppy have a local dl mirror , do any of the smaller distros e.g. in terms of upgrades/packages e.g. skype blah blah

We have a toaster at UWC as well. In the Computer Science Department, opposite the secretary's office. The Computer Science Department is on the lower level of the Science building.

Eish so I see the machine I have and the machine I used to have are not one and the same - I lent this box to my mom a while back a simple win 98 box with word etc - she got a virus at one stage and took it to the local pc shop and hey guess what - some fscker stole the 64mb radeon, half the ram and it is now a 300mhz celeron - so the specs I have now are 4mb sis graphics/300mhz celeron/160mb ram - man im pissed off this box was barely usable as it was before - now eish what can I run on that...

Puppy does not pick up my old com mouse... - win98 does so I know it works... hmmmm any advice? - perhaps see if DSL does the same thing...
