Linux from Africa

Thanks, but I'll manage fine with Windows 7. The only reason I played UT3 was because I am a UT fan. I always play with the default characters because if there is on thing I hate more than different flavours of a useless OS then it is role playing. The problem was I had an onbard Radeon X1250 and it sucked at UT3. So I waited until my end of year leave and bought a Radeon HD4650 but then after finishing UT3 I thought I still needed to get some pleasure out of my expenditure so I played NFS.

But none of them were online or role playing or on linux - cause all that sucks :p
 
Gentoo is already using portage and Gentoo can be 32bit Linux 64bit Linux and even BSD if you want to. Nice to see portage being a strong point.

I suspect so many people chop and change their distro that they never really get to test it properly.
 
I wonder what this one has that the others don't...IOW what is the attraction?

It's now available via mirror.ac.za

This mirror is technically unofficial until I receive a response from the Kongoni Admins about mirroring their content, but you can access it using the usual methods, i.e. http/ftp/rsync from kongoni.mirror.ac.za

Hehehe, at least there are some win32 binaries that can make use of all the resources - unlike software for linux and mac which is just plain boring and useless :p
 
u can run exe files in linux using vmware or another emulator. i installed photoshop on ubuntu 8.10. ubuntu is easy to use once u learn to use "google" oO.

Interesting, maybe they will bring a more user friendly touch Slackware otherwise it would be pretty much like Gentoo. IMO, all they need is an eye candy installer and easy to use management tool + pkgsrc.

Will pass on trying it out and stick with BSD :)

This is the problem the linux community, rather than them constructively spending their time trying to improve an existing version of linux (like ubuntu), they would rather waste their time creating their own flavour.
 
Yes, also the problem with Linux people is they should spend more time one project like ReactOS. Remember, computer users love familiarity, and that is what ReactOS gives.

Won't you then call them ReactOS people? I also believe people that gives up their spare time to work on a project of their choice does not care what computers users love.
 
this is blind...unlike MS who tries and cater for everybody, open source doesnt, and its not going to apologize for that either. It's an option, if you like it use it and if you want to then contribute to the community. If you dont like it then dont use it.
but what you guys are doing is rather wrong, you guys are complaining about an OS you guys havent even used.
And on another note, i think you okes are rather vain as well. Sure it might be the ugliest OS in the world, but wtf is that our main concern concerning OS's of late? I for one as sure as hell hope not thats the case other wise the future of OS's look bleak.
and then to round things of its open source, if its ugly or not completely to your taste then come up with a better alternative and implement it.
But lately on MyAdsl forums you guys are turning into real fish wifes in general killing everything with potential before it even has a change to develop into its potential.
