Linux - How do we say it ?

I was told it is pronounced laai-nieks but apparently in Afrikaans that means something else.

There's no such thing is "Lie-necks" or "Linnecks" or "Lea-necks". Saying these is even worse than Americans saying "You-bun-ta" for Ubuntu.

It is pronounced "Linnucks".

Linus Torvalds gives the definitive pronounciation: WAV, MP3, OGG, AU.

I know Linus pronounces it like linnucks but I still say it like lie-nucks. I don't get where other funny pronounciations come from like lie-nicks or lie-noocks etc.

Le-nicks

But I am wrong! From the horses mouth.

I am guessing it is the close association with Unix. Hence people probably think Linus + Unix.
