Hey Vodacom Rules,

You need to look at the start of this thread and install the nozoni drivers as explained. Have a look at that and pop any questions this way :)

Good Luck !

Hey VR,

Make sure you have a program call "automake" and "autoconf" installed. I will check the build process tomorrow again, but from what I remember that is the way to do it :)

I did install that....

Same thing.

:(.....

@Vodacom Rules:

I saw that same error back when I had my nozomi...

IIRC:
a) Check that the kernel sources are installed
b) Compile as root user... I had to do that

Check that the kernel sources are installed
I'm a newbie please explain...

Thanks.

Howzit,

As far as I can remember Suse uses RPM so the following command should tell us if it's installed or not:

Code:
rpm -qa | grep -i kernel
Paste us the output please :)

Sorry, never realised that :o

Yea, do like Tazz_Tux said... :D

I've never used Suse before, but most modern Linux distro's have a gui "Add/Remove Apps" type thing... Kernel sources would normally be somewhere under "development" often as "kernel development" or just plain "kernel sources" ;)

Hope this helps.. :)

Then you need to search for kernel sources or kernel dev or something like that - google for it a bit :)

Once you have it, install and try again :)

I got my hand on a copy of SUSE Linux 10.1 this weekend and decided to again try and play with Linux and my 3G card. Ideally I want to get a system running where I have a linux box as dial up server for a windows network. Currently doing it on XP but it is an overkill for the machine it is running on. So I finally got around to trying it tonight and by using the SUSE instructions in this post got it working with KInternet.

So for the linux masters who may have a moment or two too help a newbie:

How can I get the modem to automatically dial ? Is DoD the best way ?
How can I set it up that when it is connected using the modem it can use different nameservers then when it is running on the network with a different nameserver ? (How can I set my own nameservers and still use dynamic nameservers when connecting with the modem ?)

Huawei E620 on Fedora-Core-5

Hello

I'm trying to put this card working in the FC5 with no sucess. I use to have a E600 card that work, but now I upgrade to this version and .... no WORK.

When I plug the card I get this in my /var/log/message:
Jul 29 22:39:21 localhost kernel: pccard: CardBus card inserted into slot 0
Jul 29 22:39:21 localhost kernel: PCI: Enabling device 0000:07:00.0 (0000 -> 0002)

What I don't undestand is why the device found is OHCI Host Controller and not NEC or HUAWEI like was with the E600 card.

I use pppd scripts and when I run the # pppd call umts command I get this:

why the moden is hanging up?

I put
options usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1001
in /etc/modprobe.conf and I get the same messages.

any one know anything about this? hope so....

Simply add the final script to your startup (/etc/conf.d/local.start normally)

e.g. wvdial bla &

Is DoD the best way ?
Why bother - you pay for data, not time and Linux has a pretty hot firewall :D

How can I set it up that when it is connected using the modem it can use different nameservers then when it is running on the network with a different nameserver ? (How can I set my own nameservers and still use dynamic nameservers when connecting with the modem ?)
Linux will "always" look at /etc/resolv.conf for DNS info. Simply override/edit it with the DNS servers you want and away you go ! :)

Edit /etc/ppp/options and add a line "debug" - This will spit a bunch of messages to /var/log/messages. Paste those here :)

tkx for the reply

I put the debug in the /etc/ppp/options but the result is the same. I've found that the APN was wrong. I fix it and not this the log in /var/log/messages

I put in /etc/resolve.conf the DNS that I get when I connect with Windows and I still without Internet in Fedora Core 5.

What I'm doing wrong?

THanks for the help. Really silly question but I can't find this in SUSE 10.1 - Any suggestion what to search or look for instead ? Or can I just create it. There is no conf.d directory thought ?

Got it to act as a ics server as well and running beatifull. NTS reading and writing like a charm and simply the perfect replacement for my old Windows Server

slocate local.start <-- should find my file
slocate rc.startup <-- might find this one
