I have bootable linux CD. But, my lap top does not boot from it.
I have master DVD of Winxp which gets booted up from the drive. But, the linux bootable CD is not working. The CD gets booted at my friends place in a desktop with CD Rom drive !!

Please help me sort out this problem.

Normally your Distro will come with a "special" utility that makes a bootable stiffy disk.Once you've booted up with the stiffy disk it will ask you which device to load - select your CD-ROM.

I remember that is was a problem if you used a new CD format like CD-RW with an older CDROM, the CD wouldn't boot.

Do you have any of these combinations? Old laptop cdrom? Distro on CD-RW?

1. What Disto is it? There are special ways of booting a linux distro when the crom/dvdrom dont work properly... Ive installed on an ANCIENT laptop with NO access to a cdrom :) It was hell, but it worked. Anyways, It might have something to do with your bios settings. What laptop is it? You _MAY_ have to install grub to sort out the problem...
