Linux made easy with Mandriva 2010.2

Windows -- Easy ?

Easy compared to what? Definitely not compared to Windows or OS.

Windows appears easy -- there is a lot that goes on "under-the-bonnet" -- they have just hidden all that from the ( dumbed down ) user.

Anyway -- when are M$ going to make a nice easy GUI for all their different and scattered network diagnostics utils ?

Can't that be done via the MMC?

Someone needs to make a version of Linux that is profitable enough to market to the end market without coming across as worse of two the choices.

We've heard it all before "xxx makes Linux easy". Easy for whom? Definitely not for the "guy on the street" or your average (or even above average) PC user. Easy compared to what? Definitely not compared to Windows or OS.

If you began you pc life on Linux, you would be saying the same thing about other OSs ;).

Windows... easy? I deal with people over the phone, to do tech support, and if I were to hand them a copy of Linux to use instead of Windows, then they would still be equally as useless at using the PC.

Windows is not easier than Linux, it's only that you're too lazy to give anything else a try.

if you installed Linux on someone's computer and told them it was Windows 8 I bet the vast majority would be none the wiser

I agree. The only thing that might be a good idea for Ubuntu to do still in my opinion is to make the Trash bin and "My Computer" icon visible on the desktop by default. I dont know why they keep on hiding those.

For the rest, you install and everything you need as a ordinary ouma and oupa is there. You have you browser, you have your office suite and email program. If you want to play vids and music files, when you click on them it asks if you want to install the restricted codecs. You click yes and viola. Getting a internet connection is a question of plugging in your modem and clicking next next next and done! ADSL is also easy peasy as I understand it under Ubuntu's network manager.

The only reason why people are so feaking lazy is cause their machine in 99.9% of the time comes pre-installed witn Windoze and they have already paid for it, whether you like it or not! That is fcked UP!!!!!!!!
