<br />From what I can gather on the forum there is still no USB solution for IPW modem in Linux. Is there a specific reason?

It may have something to do with the fact that nothing from IPW works properly, not even the windows driver works properly (hyperthreading, anyone?). Rather cancel your contract and get one of the iBurst modems - they have an ethernet port too, so you won't need to buy a ****ty IPW ethernet cash cow cable.

If you really must use IPW under anything other than windows, get an ethernet cable from one of the broadband shops. Keep your slip, they fail a lot.

Thx Donovan, yeah I don't want to spend freekin R250 [:(!] for an ethernet cable - thats why I asked [:)]

There is a linux usb driver created by the rodent (if memory serves me). Although it is a bitch to install (re-compile the kernel stuff) and get running.

There is also the a linux driver that works with the 2.4 kernel and you don't need to recompile the kernel to use it. I used it for 2 months before upgrading to 2.6. I'm now using Rodents driver. Both are really stable.

Groenie, where did you get the 2.4 driver ? ...

Best Linux for the desktop is OpenSuse 10

You can get it from Pretoria Linux Distributors cheap

Tom, tsk tsk - for shame! It'd have helped your cause a whole lot if you'd taken the time to read what the original poster was asking:

Which linux distribution is best? (I mean easiest to set up a proxy) I want to run a proxy on a dsl dailup.

And where can I download such a linux distribution?

Instead you're trying to sneak in a shameless troll that completely misses the point (and OH the irony, when on that abysmal page you actually DO have links to SmoothWall and IPCop.) So much for on-topic, now..

<rant>Tom, a Linux-sales site built in FrontPage 4 (and LOOKS like it (i.e. craptacular)) with an embedded QuickTime object (for which I want to hurt somebody for subjecting me to that abomination  ) that autoplays as you land on the site AND if you have the misfortune to refresh it??! What ARE you thinking?!! More to the point, how can you utterly miss the point of punting FOSS software with *that* site? </rant> ... but I can offer you a way out- I happen to know a particularly talented webdesigner who can elevate you from ..well, "that"

edit: oh the sheer JOY of "unadulterating" the site _I_ see, care of Adblock! :D

I have used FrontPage to build initial page year and half ago but today I edit it manually in programmer editor. I have removed this reference already

Nobody complained yet about auto play intro, no need to refresh this page again. Creates more alive experience for web surfer but bandwidth limitation is a problem otherwise I would implement mouse over auto talking functionality

Layout, look and feel proves quite successful and is any browser compatible
