Linux Steam Client Beta Applications now open

Yes, download the beta instead.

What I have now experienced with the beta:
All my previous stats are null and void, you have to start over, BUT I found quite a few items quite easily that was dropped or donated.

I'm getting the same error with Team Fortress 2 Beta:
"The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes."
:(

I was able to download 'Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP' though, so I don't think there's a problem with my connection to Steam, although that game doesn't run, and no error messages either.

The only games I have been able to download and run so far are 'Amnesia: The Dark Descent' and 'Space Pirates and Zombies'.
LIMBO, Braid and Psychonauts are listed as available, but don't download any files and obviously don't play.

Here's a nice list of working and non-working games:

Update: Now downloading Team Fortress 2 (not the Beta) on iBurst at 220KB/s.
Must have been something weird with my work connection.

Update2: It turns out 'Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP' requires the 32-bit version of libcurl.so.4 and I have a 64-bit installation of Ubuntu 12.10.
Solved by doing the following:
Code:
$ sudo apt-get install libcurl3:i386

I'm finding myself forced to once again use the wine version since there is no real choice for us Linux folk.

The Counter Strike complete package came up for sale for $9.99 (around R90.00) so here I am installing steam via wine again to play this game.

Eish, they should hurry up with porting more titles.

Thanks for the tip.

The Left 4 Dead Bundle is currently on special for $7.50 (R65). Left 4 Dead 2 is not currently available for Linux, but since it was mentioned in all the original Steam for Linux articles, I think it will be soon.

World of Goo, which does work in Steam for Linux, is currently on special for $2.50 (R22).
I got it directly from 2D Boy when it came out, but at that price, I'm thinking of just buying it again so I can have it in Steam.

Well as you all know, Steam for Linux beta is public now.

Today Half Life for linux popped up in my games list. Also saw its posted on phoronix.
Additionally, managed to install Counter-Strike 1.6 for Linux and run it, and even joined a local server.
Runs perfect on my Laptop.

To get CS installed, show all games you own, right click on CS then go Properties. Then click on Betas tab, then join steampipe beta and boom you can install CS for Linux.

To launch it however, you need to launch it from the console using:
Code:
cd ~/Steam/SteamApps/common/Counter-Strike; LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:. ./hl_linux -game cstrike;

And here is a screeny of me joining the mweb gamezone server:
