Linux System Administrator/Engineer
Technology Solutions Company looking for a professional individual with the right attitude and ambition for a position at a large retailer.
Expected output:
Become part of the team at a tier 1 retail organisation.
Work on implementing new projects and initiatives.
General Linux Administration and performance tuning.
Owning issues to resolution.
Working with the developers to implement and deploy the software.
Investigations on the VBS Application, Linux servers & endpoints and supporting systems.
Qualifications:
Technology related degree/diploma or Linux Certifications. We will consider people with a large amount of practical experience as well.
Experience:
Linux specialist (rpm based enterprise server experience advantageous) - min 1 year production experience (on a full time basis).
Advantage if experience in a client facing role
Required Technology Skills:
Troubleshoot and understand IT problems
Firm understanding of the Linux environment
Work Experience using the CLI and comfortable with it. (Don’t apply if you have only used GUI tools to administer Linux)
Bash scripting
Support for Linux infrastructure and internal application systems.
Understand TCP/IP networking, architecture and core technologies (DNS, DHCP, TFTP, Multicasting, etc.)
SQL skills and basic database knowledge
Advantages:
(Having experience in one or more of these areas will be beneficial for this role)
Experience in administrating SLE distros
Experience in SLEPOS
Experience with administrating Java based applications.
IBM Websphere application server, MQ and DB2 administration experience
Understanding XML
Other requirements:
Fluent in English
Professional high energy individual
Enjoys working in a team oriented environment
After hours work where arranged.
Proud to own issues to resolution
SA citizen and must reside around Cape Town area
Good communication skills
Positive "can do" attitude
Big picture thinking
Self Starter
