Seems that Blizzard decided to make a whole heap of new friends.

Source Battle net and Wine HQ(Comments)

Thank you for contacting us. An additional review of the action taken against the Diablo III account on not_really_real@emailaddress.com has been completed. We have confirmed our initial findings, and the account action will not be reversed or changed.

Actions are based on the violation's severity and take previous violations into consideration. This action was taken in accordance with the Terms of Use (us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/legal/) and our Diablo III Policies (us.battle.net/support/en/article/diablo-iii-policies), which all players acknowledge and agree to before logging into the game.

We understand that these policies may seem harsh, but they are in place to ensure that every player is able to enjoy their time in Diablo III. Thank you for respecting our position.

Oh well. So much for the years of gameplay with Blizzard and all the $$.

I got banned last night as well. Other than running under Wine I can't imagine why. Level 30ish char and not so much as a gaming keyboard.

I also have a ticket open. We will see...

Ditto. I suddenly got a banned email last night, and I'm more or less in the same position. I think they're getting a bit trigger-happy with this, considering I've been running WoW for years under WINE, too.

Ah well, ticket's up.

And loads more, Also noted http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/system-survey-troubleshooting

Unsupported Hardware or Software
Although our games are often playable on a lot of unsupported hardware and software configurations, these same setups will often block the system survey from completing its job. Some of the unsupported hardware and software that can issues with our system survey include:
  • Unlawfully obtained operating systems (pirated copies)
  • User-modified Mac operating systems running non-standard hardware
  • Unsupported operating systems such as Linux or AmigaDOS

If you are unable to connect to our game during a system survey period due to unsupported hardware or software, you will either need to temporarily play on a supported system or wait until the survey period is over to resume playing. System surveys typically last for about a week, but may run for a shorter or longer time.

Guess they did not follow their own guidelines, and opted for a Permanent ban instead.

Personally I think this sucks beyond, esp seeing that I played WOW/SC2 for more than 7 years thanx to wine. I get the sudden ban as they probably found something that some people use for botting, but Banning everyone using wine without refund is not a smart move.

From what I can tell it looks like only some versions of wine where picked up by Warden and everybody on that version ended with a perma Ban. Something tells me the moment they find the problem this will be lifted (I hope)

Aaah the beauty of always online DRM for Single player games, you just got to love that idea. Real joke is there are some people still using bots on windows and pirates can still play offline using a virtual server application.

System Survey?

As in, the EULA gives Blizzard the right to scan our computers from time to time?

I guess we should read these agreements more carefully in future, so that we can return offending games and ask for a refund.

And yet the drones will be tripping over themselves again to give their money to Ko-dick when Diablo IV or another Starcraft graphics mod comes out, the utterly horrible treatment like this completely forgotten.

Warden is always monitoring what apps are running on Blizz games, and it collects system specs

Haven't bothered to support Blizzard since they went all Nazi. They can shove their games.

Must suck when you cannot pirate to play any more.

Haven't even bothered downloading them to even try.
Did you miss the part where I said they can shove their games?
In fact, somebody gave me a preview key for Starcraft 2 and I threw it in the trash.
Must suck when you have no idea what you are talking about and end up looking like a tool.

Blizzard used to be my favourite games developer, but I knew there was gonna be crap when Activision took them over!
Previous to that I had bought every single game they ever developed.

Blizzard's reply is along these lines
Playing the game on Linux (although not officially supported) and/or using Wine will not result in being banned, but cheating will,” a company spokesperson told me. “We’ve extensively tested various scenarios related to this situation, including replicating system setups for those who have posted claiming they were banned unfairly, and have not found any situations where players were banned solely for using Linux or Wine.

One can't help but think that Blizzard is using wine as an excuse to ban people hoping that they buy a new copy.

Naa, they just recon the number of affected users are too small to care about, besides they got their money.

Problem with bliz.net accounts is they are linked to your email. If you buy another copy you will have to create a new account with a different email address. They banned the entire account.

In my case I would be ticked off as I have 4 copies of wow (Complete with cata) SC 1+2 Warcraft 2 +3 and Diablo 2+ expansion on my account. That is a lot of money to lose for a simple warden stuff up.

I highly doubt so many people would be using cheats, if you look at the sheer number of complaints it will negate this statement.

From the little I have read about it, the number of banned people does not seem to be that significant. (link)

Following some of the links on that article, and the links on those, I get the idea that it was a small number of people and that many wine users are still playing.

I will follow this story for a bit longer to see what comes out. Until then I guess I will keep the dual boot on my box. (I was thinking of removing the windows bit that was only installed to play D3)
