Ex-Barcelona Coach Carles Rexach Praised For Discovering Lionel Messi​

One of Barca’s ex-directors, Gabriel Masfurroll, who is also a close personal friend of Messi’s, also spoke during the ceremony.

“Leo arrived at Barcelona because of a growth hormone problem and our daughter, Paola, was also diagnosed with the same ailment. She always looks up to Leo and for the Masfurroll family, Messi is very special to us,” he praised.

“A lot of people know that he is the best player in the world but not many know that he has a foundation that does a lot of good things. He is a good person, a normal person, and you can’t put a price on that.”

Messi will now join a list of other footballing gods to have picked up the Marca Legend accolade, along with Maradona, Pele, Johan Cruyff, Zinedine Zidane, Alfredo Di Stefano, Gento and Raul. ‘El Mesias’, however, at just 21-years-old, is the youngest recipient, beating tennis star Rafael Nadal and swimmer Michael Phelps.

eh? the heading is a bit misleading... you post's heading says the ex barca coach is praised but all I see is Messi being praised????

If a ManYoo fan/supporter had posted something similar on Ronaldo, all the haterz would say he is far too young to be a legend, yet when it comes to this team, it's accceptable. Don't you just love the irony?

imHo, messi just has more class.
ronaldo runs fast, and can take wicked long shots, and is great in the air.
but messi has the ability to run around defenders, and turn them inside out before going past, and then PASSING the ball into the net. i'd rather watch messi doing that, than ronaldo rolling around on the floor performing and looking like he's about to cry.

Messi has an advantage, hes like a laaitie, you ever play ball with a short kid who knows what hes doing? They run circles around you, lower centre of gravity etc... Hes not good in the air, not as fast as Ronaldo, cant take free kicks, cant strike from distance, cant win balls in the box.

I agree. Ronaldo can't actually dribble anymore. It's a joke to see what he does nowadays.
 
I think this season is evidence of how great Messi is. All the doubters have stopped hating.

Ronaldo is an awesome player, its just that i dont like the way he plays the game. He never wants to stay on his feet.

I dont think he will win an award like this. Look at the names that have won this award before, Marodona, Pele, Phelps, Di Stefano.
 
If Ronaldo would get over his diving addicition and would give his all (and not get put on the left wing) he could be better than Messi. But Ronaldo is awfully childish which is why we'll see many more seasons of diving from him.

His tantrums last night were amusing!Ronaldo gets away with too much,needs to focus on his playing and stop trying to impress the olympic diving commitee.

lol if you ask me he's been trying to curb some diving... but he's throwing tantrum's now instead for his "effort" to not dive... starting to look like Queserma. I think if he keeps this up AF is gonna pwn him next season :D

messi was really really quiet against Chelsea... step over, dribble, pass to the right a few times... Ineistatia out perfromed messi on that night

Yeah and the occasional kick of the opponent. He really is an over sized baby. Thinks cos he won all those awards he can do whatever he wants.

Like someone said. Messi is a better dribbler but only because he can beat a defender without going down. If Ronaldo would attempt to stay on his feet when dribbling past a defender and not goo flying and try to win a free kick, he would be penetrating with ease.

Just look at the videos of him in his first and second season at United, used to get past 2 or 3 defenders like it was nothing.

Ya, it is to be expected when you almost triple mark a player. He was totally out of the game. His movement did allow Iniesta and Xavi a bit more room in midfield cos Chelsea was hell bent on trying to mark Messi.

I think in the second leg we will see what Messi can do. Chelsea would have to attack and that could give Messi the freedom to play.

I totally disagree. I think Ronaldo isnt a good dribbler. All he does is countless step overs. I think Berbatov is a better dribbler than Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has speed, strength but his countless cross overs hardly fools any defender. He doesnt have the ability to really take defenders on and turn them inside out.
 
Like I said, go on youtube and find vidoes of him in his first and second seasons at United. Yes he does do quite a few crossovers but he left defenders lying on the ground in his wake. Lets not mention the roulette's and genereally how he could slice through two defenders with pure speed. Back then he used to do it with conviction but now after all the awards, you can see he feel's he has nothing to prove anymore :/

The Messi vs Ronaldo debate has made me look at TONS of youtube vids with Ronaldo and Messi and Ronaldo isnt a dribbler.

He will beat you with speed but thats easy. He would kick a ball and chase it. Dribbling is a skill, you either have it or you dont.

I would not say ronaldo is a bad dribbler but I will agree with you that messi is an imba dribbler and ronaldo likes to chase and tap the ball ahead of him.
