What have ppl got to say about liquidtelecom??

Their prices are a bit higher than other ISP's but if their claims of max 550ms latency and absolutely no fair access policy on uncapped packages is true, the slightly higher prices are more than justified.

The person I spoke to was extremely competent and very efficient, there is only one other ISP I have run across that keeps their promises of callbacks etc.

I'm really interested but if the service all of a sudden vanishes after money changes hands (as often happens) then I'm snookered.

Does liquidtelecom meet the very impressive claims they make??

I phoned them and received an email with a PDF labelled confidential, not sure what would happen if I upload it (assuming this forum allows non-mods to upload+attach files)

The equipment they use (eg. Router and Transmitter is very good from everything I've found to read) They don't lock you out of your own router like most companies, they have no (un)fair use policy ..... if you pay for a 1Mbps line you actually GET a 1Mbps line, (not a 1Mbps line on the first monday, every thursday who's date is divisible by 7 and the last 15mins of every 2nd friday ... the rest of the time its a 10Kbps line - like most 'uncapped' packages) and a 550ms latency where all other SA satellite companies I've spoken to refuse to promise better than 2000ms. Their claims are extremely inviting and I've found nothing to disprove them.

On paper liquidtelecom is a wetdream come true, I'm just hoping for a little corroboration before I fork over R7grand for (another) satellite dish because the previous company is complete trash (I've posted about Yahclick if you you want to read about blatant megacorp piracy)

If your interested, phone/email them. However since you have a high speed ADSL line, a slower, higher latency, more expensive, satellite connection is probably not what u'll chose.

Now, there is the question of WHY you'd want to pay R7000 for a 1Mb/s connection through satellite with 500ms+ latency.

Either you live in the middle of nowhere, or you're in a dead spot surrounded by networks which have connectivity but no towers near enough to you. Are there no other WISPs which are cheaper? How much would you be paying per month for this connection?

Yahclick charges R12grand for their equipment with 2000ms+ latency. As satellite connections go Liquidtelcom looks very good. Besides, you still have to fork over R7000+ for a satellite dish for WISP.

The only WISP i've found that might work has kept me 'on hold' for over a month and a half. I've spoken to 2 different sales consultants, asked for a manager at least 3 times, phoned about 12 times and emailed 3 times and never got anything back ......

When I got tired of pussyfooting around, some1 from WAPA actually gave me contact info for Liquidtelecom ......

Liquid is part of Econet
Before I left they were still mainly focussed on fibre links between here and Zim
