Live Coverage Of Apple's WWDC 2012.

Surely there is already a million apple devices sold n the country. (50K + ipads sold by FNB alone) for Apple to open a SA office and have some developer events & workshops here.
They can learn something from Microsoft in this regard.

The iMac and Mac Pro crowd are highly dissappointed with this event.

Why would I choose new MBPs vs old ones?

It's basically Ivy bridge vs Sandy Bridge...(also usb2 vs usb3)

A tear rolled down my cheek... Insurance replacing my old 13" MBP and I've been holding out for today to see which way to go. $2199,00 is a bit rich for me, same price as the current top end 15" MBP so it'll be around R24K... I guess it'll just be a new Air then. Damn...

New MBP is great, and I guess the pricing is ok if you consider the display, reduction in size and that this is most likely pitched to replace the 17" price point.

I liked this one as it shows at least Jony Ive, Phil Schiller and Bob Mansfield seem to be doing good things.

iOS6 is for me the biggest disappointment of WWDC re:
  • Google maps are going to be replaced by something that for SA users is most likely going to be a step backwards for a while, quite possible 1 or 2 years. Can only hope Google brings out it's map app for iOS pretty soon.
  • No Siri API -- so we can't see any custom solutions from developers.
  • No UI overhaul... the 2007 UI is really getting very old... :(
  • No simplication of features settings i.e. switching on/off wifi, 3g, ...
  • Advertising of app / features like for example: passbook, which again will mean nothing for anyone outside of the US.
  • New Siri features will again be very US specific i.e. severely hampered outside of the US; also nothing was mentioned about improvement with voice recognition (which typically defeats any of the mentioned advancements)
  • etc...

The blame for this has to go on the shoulders of Scott Forstall (clearly he is more interested in his own ego, than pushing the iOS envelope); his biggest claim to fame prior SJ is faux leather... need I say more. stop trying to pimp iOS...

Who honestly was surprised by anything with iOS6?

No surprises with OSX ML; sadly so (I believe it's again a lack of UI direction in Apple; clearly this is an area SJ is going to be missed)

At least Microsoft with Windows 8 is pushing the envelope far further than both Android & Apple.

...and that was it... overall a very poor delivery IMO i.e. significant under-delivery in most areas... I really hope there is more planned for this year (as this is not looking good) :(

Is Apple falling in the same trap as RIM by becoming more and more conservative with new releases? When I look at the iPhone 4S, iPad "3" and now the MacBooks I cannot help feeling somewhat disappointed. It's as if Apple has entered into a comfort zone where they need not push the envelope anymore ... people will buy whatever they offer anyway so why take any risks ... RIM comes to mind.

Yip. Very underwhelming.

Must be half a dozen jailbreak apps they could take their cue from:

1. Sbsettitngs
2. Anyattach
3. Removebackground
4. Fakeclockup
5. Springtomize

Mmm ... bit disappointing the Air didnt get an at least iPad3 res Retina display and no next-gen 802.11ac WiFi. Ability to boost to 8GB mem & 512GB SSD nice tho, along with USB3.
