The 62-year-old former Fulham, Inter Milan and Switzerland manager has agreed terms with the club on a three-year contract and becomes the 18th manager in our history.

He will be unveiled to the world's media this afternoon after overseeing the first day of pre-season training at Melwood.

Hodgson joins us from Fulham, where he guided the Cottagers to the Europa League final in May and was voted Manager of the Year by the League Managers' Association.

He exclusively told Liverpoolfc.tv: "This is the biggest job in club football and I'm honoured to be taking on the role of manager of Britain's most successful football club. I look forward to meeting the players and the supporters and getting down to work at Melwood."

I hope so too. the first thing he needs to do is keep all our "core" players

True but he will also need to invest in the squad and he wont be able to do that without making some sales.. and no one is going to pay for scraps, the only 2 that should be irreplacable are Gerrard and Reina.. Wouldnt even put Torres on the list, if you can get 50m+ for him, pool should take it and re-invest in 2 decent strikers that can stay fit the whole season

I think we can ill afford to lose Torres. The spine of our team need to be there next season. the squad players might be moving on i reckon.

I think he will do well at Liverpool, I've got a good feeling about this.

Good move, but he will need to hang onto the big names to challenge for the league. Yossi is on his way out already, correct ?

Not my first choice, doesn't exactly play the attractive football Liverpool should but he's a well liked and respected successful manager who should be able limit the damage by the two idiot owners and Rafa.

+1

We need a quiet sensible manager to steer us forward through this mess.

The same insane Rafa who is manager of the current european champions? The Inter board must be a bunch of loonies.

Impossible to buy two good strikers and expect them too perform in the Eng Prem in their first season (Ref: Man City). If Torres goes, then your season is over. That is the problem when you only rely on one great striker.

I just don't see Liverpool getting ahead of Man City or Spurs. Spurs now have a solid base team with an amazing manager and City have eventually worked out that foreigners cant be expected too perform straight away in the Prem, oh and Robinho is in amazing form.

I hope Roy put a clause in a contract saying that he should be paid 6 million pounds for failing miserably...

Gary Megson could win Seria A with Inter :D

He'll never match Mourinho...

Depends how long he stays and how much he wins. Mou only stayed for two seasons so rafa has the possibility to out do him in the long run.

Good luck to mister Hodgson at lfc. He is still liked by the inter fans and management from his time at the club even though he didn't win anything, very few inter managers can say that.

Been AWOL for a bit, been World Cup touring, all in all Im not happy with this appointment. Not that I dont like Roy, he is a great manager but we all know LFC are for sale. Which the current dickheads, I mean owners say only could be sold by year end. I liked the idea of Kenny taking over till then & let the new guys find a new manager. In saying that I will as a Liverpool supporter have full faith & support in Roy, Im sure he'll get us back up their where we belong.

Methinks! Rafa went overboard with his Spanish acquisitions or maybe he thought of turning them into Spanish Inquisitions!:D
