A website set up in order to appeal to overseas fans who want to get involved in a scheme to buy Liverpool football club has been suspended.

A message on the www.shareliverpoolfc.co.uk website simply says that the site has been suspended, presumably due to exceeding bandwidth restrictions as a high volume of fans attempt to access it.

The group, calling itself Share Liverpool FC, is hoping to attract fans from all over the world to their scheme to raise ÂŁ500m to buy the club and build a new stadium.

The man behind the scheme, Rogan Taylor, is director of the Football Industry Group at the University of Liverpool and wants the club to be more like Barcelona, which is owned by a group of fans.

In the UK, Ebbsfleet United FC was recently taken over by the website MyFootballClub.co.uk, a group consisting of members of the public who paid ÂŁ35 to join the scheme.

Orange has predicted in its upcoming Future of Football 2008 report that more clubs would be owned by consortia of fans in years to come.

Americans George Gillett and Tom Hicks currently own Liverpool FC, having bought it last year, but there were rumours recently that a Middle Eastern consortium were about to take over.

Liverpool, who were beaten 1-0 last night by West Ham, also look to be all but out of the Premier League title race and could struggle to qualify for next year's Champions League if their form doesn't pick up soon.

Before the site crashed, a message from Rogan Taylor read: "Personally, I would like to thank in advance all Liverpool fans who send us their views and contact details. We all know that, together, we are the heart and soul of Liverpool FC. Why shouldn't we also be its collective owners?"

I think the Fools are over reacting (big time). Let the Owners do their thing for a few years and if things continue to go downhill, then something must be done.

do you actually watch english football

i dont see how it could be worse for liverpool EVER

Best in the world!

It is a fact that the two best teams in the England both come from the City of Liverpool - that is Everton and Everton Reserves!!! I think my user name gives one an idea of whom I support.

Liverpools problem is that they are trying to buy a championship. The only talented UK players they have were poached from Everton Juniors! (Read Gerrard, Carragher, Macmanoman, Fowler etc etc). They need to go back to the basics and start producing some of their own talent, it is there in the Liverpool area. A mix of local and foreign is what you need to be succesful in the long term, just look at Man U.

wTF are you talkin ? sorry to be rude but you talking complete BS. As i said before, Fools need to have patience, and be positive with what/who they have. They have good talented players, and if they are all in positive state the team can/will also feel it.

Read below ... f''kin idiot

lol, yeah i live on EPL. i went late to my bro's wedding cos of a UTD match , i even went to OT 3 times.

I did tell you i was sorry for being rude ... :p

anyways, Fools have to realise that their glory days were the 80's and
90's. Since then they did win many trophies, not that they were trophyless. They won CL with less talent than what they have now, and beat United to it, who has & have a much stronger squad than them. In the 90's and early 2000, united were so dominant but could only win the CL once. So Fools cannot start all this BS because they are playing poorly. It happens to every team. They need to keep their heads up high and get on with it.

BUT hey I HATE LIVERPOOL so im glad that their club together with their supporters are losing it :D

It's Liverpool, not "Fools".

Have some respect for the fellow football fans.

Umm, no we call Manure fans tossers, it's the team that is manure j/k :D

Personally I thought it would be a good thing for Pool when G+H took over, but it seems that they only have one thing in mind and that is using the club to fund other things.

They know nothing about football, at least Romanovich follows the game.
I'd much rather have owners who understood the concepts required to run a successful footy club- Investing in talent (as per Toffee's post), giving the manager the time and resources to build a team, which takes years, not months. Making the players feel like they are not just commodities (tell me they havent sat down and thought about how much they could get for Gerrard etc..). Right now it feels like the current pool owners are getting ready to cut up the club and sell the parts on..

I would much rather have a group of owners who cared about the club and it's success first and foremost. Not two yanks who only want to fund their next NHL purchase..

Rather a fool than something that comes out a cow's backside :p:D

Seriously I agree. Give the owners time. They are about to lay out 18 mill on Mascherano. Get in a quality coach. Sign a striker, 2 wide plays and a LB and we'll be on our way.

At least we're not burning effigies of them in the street :o

liverpool need a wide player who can dribble badly

liverpool's attack is very boring and easy to defend against

take united chelsea and arsenal, they have players coming from all sides running at defenders

also i believe 18 mil for macherano is way to much

Yeah but then again we [-]sold[/-] conned Juve out of 8mill for Sissoko . Masch must be worth 30mill by that reckoning and I must be worth 2mill :D
