Power cuts hit Joburg

Johannesburg's City Power started load reduction today in areas of the city to protect the integrity of the grid caused by high demand. This is despite Eskom not declaring any load-shedding.

Load reduction will affect 80 areas in the city from 06:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 22:00.

Well they promised no load shedding, but did they promise no "Load Reduction"? I don't think so

City Power is not Eskom... Plus they did load reduction last year and the year before. Yet everyone is suddenly surprised by it.

City Power gets from Eskom - so either way its LS but just in JHB.

That means we are currently under supplied - but just don't have the demand.

Eskom can supply fine, the issue is City Power cannot distribute it, they are the problem. Their last mile infrastructure cannot supply, hence why they are reducing load, cause their infrastructure cannot keep up with the demand or supply from Eskom.

Elections are over and here we are. Basically 2 weeks after, and only JHB for now.
Not even JHB, I mean it's not everyone and it's only high density areas that have many illegal connections and were load reduced last year... Oh hells be how can it be.

Everyone shitting and moaning about this, are any of you even in those areas that are affected by load reduction? Sure, the automatic shutdown of Geysers is a bit crap, but I'm guessing no one on here are in the areas that are affected by load reduction.

They've probably not even checked, they just want to fume that there is "loadshedding" after the elections

Thank heavens I am supplied by Eskom. Don't need this extra **** in my life

Actually Eskom do load reduction as well and have been since 2020, though they've been quiet recently

So loadshedding then?
Isn't Load Reduction where they turn off areas where the illegal connections are for the peak periods?

Seems like a perfectly reasonable response if SAPS can't create a safe environment in which to go and remove the illegal connections.

Ssssh don't bring in logic, this is the whooooole of JHB, I didn't bother to check the list or see the reason, I must fume and rage that load shedding is back. Not that load reduction has been done before and it's generally on the areas with high illegal connections.

I don't think I have a meter. When did those roll out? Been renting in the same place since 2017.
