City Power Linky <- Load Shedding Schedule.

Having heard the City Power representative on 702 last night, and seeing the Load Shedding Schedule available on their website, are we in for Load Shedding 2011?

Excellent timing, just after the elections.

Are you experiencing outages already, and do they match the timetable? Did you see this coming, are we royally screwed AGAIN this year after all the promises of no load shedding in 2011?
 
Well considering that maintenance on equipment is required, your going to have load shedding but the elections did have an effect on planned maintenance even in the DA-Blue Cape.

Also your going to get some load shedding before winter as Eskom cannot work on the lines during winter as its their peak season of the year. Delayed maintenance just makes it worse.
 
I hear that Ekurhuleni also has a schedule on theirs too. It seems we are almost certainly going to see a black out in Winter. We are readying ourselves just in case with extra supplies like 9kg gas, candles and rechargeable lights. If do go into power cuts again, let's hope it's more equitable than last time. We always had cuts from 5/6pm to 9/10pm, which was actually quite demoralising.

This is worse. 4 times a week and always at night!!! :mad:

And then you have this area below, who are cut 3 days a week, weekdays only and while they're at work. Sorry, but I am spitting mad now!!! :mad:

All ready, except there's no access to the PC for some much required gaming time ... if you're cut at night like me :(
 
block 8 is by FAR the worst, 4 times a week at night.Hectic.

But I am spitting mad about this, after all the empty promises.

Where is the rotation of this? Makes no sense for some never to notice the effects of a power cut, and others to be compromised so badly!

I shouldn't have seen this. It's somewhat ruined my day. :(

My area is Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 14:00 so I thought that's not too bad, I'll only really be affected on weekends. Your question regarding rotation is very valid!

sounds much better. They talk a lot of hot air, wrap it up in such nice packages that it's hard to resist - and once you got hold of it, all you get is a waft of hot air and then nothing.
 
Thing is, is there any confirmation of when this schedule will come into effect? Or is just a matter of waiting till they decide to pull the plug?

Eskom has now given the assurance that load-shedding will not go ahead this year. The power utility's assurance comes after South Africans saved 1 800 megawatts worth of electricity between 2004 and 2010.

Use Google. It works.
 
According to a couple of other articles, the schedules are 'just in case' as Eskom cannot really predict the amount of energy people will consume - if people are responsible with their electricity use and times there will be no load shedding:
"Ekurhuleni Metro is not saying there will be load shedding, but that Eskom had advised its clients to be ready with schedules should the need arise to shed the load.

"The municipality has the responsibility to keep its residents informed hence it published the load shedding schedules that would be followed should the need arise to load shed.
"Eskom is the main supplier of electricity and monitors the national electricity grid and from time to time advises its major customers, such as Ekurhuleni and other industries, if there is pressure on the grid and requests them to do load shedding if necessary, and often indicates how much load needs to be shed.

"However, Ekurhuleni is responsible to come up with a suitable schedule which will minimize the impact on its customers," said spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

As a result of the communiqué, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council had decided that, as a precautionary measure, they would update and communicate their load shedding schedules with residents to provide early communication. This made it seem as if Eskom was indeed planning load shedding.

Eskom spokesperson, Hilary Joffe, had clarified this issue via some of the radio stations. "Although the system is going to be tight as we go into winter and during the winter, Eskom is not planning any load shedding", she said.

Eskom urges all clients to continue helping in minimising any risks of load shedding.

Well they are building increased capacity, it's not something you can do in 1 year though.
The city of Cape Town is more accurate I think. They say:
Eskom recently announced that the pre-emptive load shedding has been suspended until further notice.

The City of Cape Town and Eskom see loadshedding as a last resort and therefore request all customers to support the current energy saving initiative.
The following loadshedding schedule will apply only when required.
