South African households looking for large but easy-to-install backup power systems to fend off load-shedding and other power outages have several reputable systems to choose from.

Freedom one is a battery....

For extended outages the tesla will become a doorstop with no solar capabilities

You can only charge that battery while eskom is present or you will have to buy a seperate inverter with solar connected to it to supply the 220v if you want to charge it from solar while eskom isn't present

marketing it as a superior product in SA is a joke imo

Edit just as well it comes with a high ip rating cause that **** with nmc cells you want outside your house, in case you ever become that tiny statistic

Yep, offline capability is a major purchasing consideration for any tech that I buy these days.

Also, is this product repairable and serviceable if the company decides to stop supporting it, or more likely, makes first party support too expensive.

Well they do compare the cost with an inverter at the bottom of the table and I found it quite a useful price comparison - not that I would ever go for an all in one branded solution like the Huawei and Tesla offerings.

Does this mean that the warranty will only be valid if it is in an air conditioned environment?

I felt the need to correct the statements made about the Tesla Powerwall 2. As to me it's pretty obvious that no one that's posted so far knows much about them.

I've been the owner of one since March and it's connected to my Enphase solar system and charges from it. The Powerwall gateway will also prioritize battery over Eskom and will only charge from Eskom upto your preset reserve value if you want it to. It does not require a constant internet connection to operate, but without one you are unable to interact with it via the app however it does create it's own local hotspot so you can still interact with it via its internal webpages.

The tesla powerwall makes sense for those that can never have solar capabilities

If you do want to gi solar it makes very little sense imo

Cause why pay the exorbitant prices for an inverter/battery combo. When you will have to buy not just an extra inverter but also a companion device to prioritise the battery use/charging

Then it just makes sense to spend the money on seperate devices

For the price of just a tesla powerwall

You can actually have
Same battery capcity same inverter capacity and panels/ instalation included

Imo you have to be either super gay for brand names or elon to go for a tesla powerwall

Or believe it brings something to the table i am missing justifying its cost

Yea suppliers/manufacturers love leaving these golden nuggets

That gets ripped out if you ever have a problem

Watched a video the other day , that claims many solar panel guarantees have portion that deals with shade being the same get out of jail free card. Salt needed i suppose it is the internet

Install 30k...
Can still get a great system for well under 200k.

You can seriously overpay for inverters... And batteries... From expert installers.
Buy the inverter and batteries and panels yourself ... And save ..
just my take and experience.
