The power system is projected to be severely constrained tomorrow (02 Sunday, November 2014) and the rest of the week due to the loss of 1 800 MW at the Majuba power station, a situation caused by damage to the central coal storage silo this afternoon.
As a result, Eskom will start implementing stage 1 of rotational load shedding tomorrow (Sunday, 02 November) from 08:00 until 22:00 according to the published load shedding schedules available at http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za/ for Eskom customers.
A silo, which houses over 10 000 tons of coal, cracked this afternoon impacting coal supplies to all six units at the power station resulting in the power station operating at reduced capacity of 1 300MW.
No injuries were reported.
Teams are on site and are in the process of dispatching mobile coal feeders to site. In the unlikely event that this contingency is unsuccessful, it may impact the full supply from the power station.
Eskom engineers are investigating the cause of the incident and more details will be released in due course
Customers are urged to switch off pool pumps, turn air-conditioning to 23⁰C and to switch off geysers and unnecessary lights to limit the impact of the load shedding. Eskom customers can contact our customer call centre on 0860 037 566. Municipal customers need to contact their own municipalities for their schedules.
Customers are cautioned to treat all electrical connections as live during this period.
Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all media platforms.

FFS.
In my area, that's Tuesday, Thursday Saturday and Sunday from 6-10pm.

FFS don't they realize the reason for regular inspections by now?

Or was the damage deliberately done?

As the other thread and my comment being:- and they want to build nuclear power stations...........

A holes don't bother to stagger either. Sinbad has 4 days with no power from 6 to 10, others have 4 days from 10 to 2? Thickest bunch anybody could ever come across.

Eight years ago in ekhuleni the week would start with a specific area without electricity 6:00 am to 10:00 am. The next time they were off it would be 10:00 to 2:00, then 2:00 to 6:00 etc.

I cant find any info for Douglasdale. Will treat it as a SURPRISE!

**We regret that we could not find a schedule for Province: Eastern Cape Main Place: Nelson Mandela Bay Suburb: Buffer Zone 2. Select the tabbed Alphabets for more suburbs.

Yeah me too. We stay next to douglasdale, other side of the bridge. Cant find a schedule, and it went out at 8 AM. Prolly going to be without power until 12 :\

Worst thing is I was about to make coffee.

Just been shed...8-10.30

Us too. Milnerton, WC. Funny thing is they claim to be using stage 2 but there is no info on a Sunday for stage 1 and 2 in Cape Town. So I assume we are being nailed per stage 3 which actually ties up with our region and current time.

So glad they didn't waste all that time and effort maintaining the infrastructure. Gives me more time to work in the garden when I would usually be kicking back relaxing watching my favourite shows on the one day a week I get to do what I like.

Load shedding at ookville will be at night. Will have to get used to candles etc.

At eork it will be during the day. At least the genny can use the excercise.
