OK - I am failing to understand the load schedule at
http://www.eskom.co.za/live/loadshed.php

I have not a cooking clue.
Weltevreden Park area - not on the list.
Honeydew is near us - not on the list.
Strubensvalley - not on the list.
Constatia Kloof - not on the list.
Randparkridge is close to us - on the list.

So, I pull up that schedule (stage 2 btw):
City power supply area Brown Stage 2 (Tue, Thu, Sat/Sun) 02:00 04:30 Central
City power supply area Brown Stage 2 (Tue, Thu, Sat/Sun) 06:00 08:30 Central
City power supply area Brown Stage 2 (Tue, Thu, Sat/Sun) 10:00 12:30 Central

Nice - power from 4:31am to 5:59 am, and then again from 8:31am to 9:59am.

90 minutes of power the whole working morning - how on earth can that be useful?

Anyone else not have a clue how this works, or who cannot find their suburb even?
I have looked at a number of areas around me - there was even a "roodepoort municipality" listing.

Only problem is that the power went off at 8:10 till 10:20 - and that is on none of the lists I found.

/frustrated to the max/

I can't understand it either - and this from a BOFH...

*mutter*

the Public Protector also need to look at this.

I think the reason we dont understand the schedules, is because of the fluctuation of the power being drawn...Then its 1500MW.....then 3000MW...then maby again 1500MW etc etc...all within a small period of time. I doubt its consistant.

I think Eskom deliberately tries to confuse everyone with that schedule! Not sure why, but it does seem to be very sadistic to put up a timetable that is confusing, deceiving and probably entirely untrue!

Our neighbourhood schedule for one is not correct!

It is easier to just guess than to try and consult it - your chances of guessing the right schedule will probably be more correct in anyway!

True to a point - however, none of the areas Ilooked in were due for a cut at 8:00, regardless of the Stage.

BOFH indeed.

Here is a better idea:

1) Limit suburbs to a province - that way you do not have 4 Newlands for example
2) Let me search by time as well - note eksdom: "in addition to" not "instead of"
3) stick to the damed schedule

So, now, I can select Gauteng, then select 8:00am. Then it will give me an ALPHABETICAL list of suburbs as humans understand them - not a random collection of suburbs using your (eskoms) own internal codes or descriptions.

I live in Suburb X not Municipality General Holdings Section 4B.

/sighs

i have tried to read it a few times. Either i am reading it wrong or eskom is not sticking to the schedule. Lol, i think they not sticking to the schedule!

Another thing...This schedules???...oh boy....Its being LOVED by the criminals..."Tonight....no lights....between 8 and 10...Lets hit Checkers!"

those loading shedding schedules never work. I've logged on during a load shed and checked. It says my area is supposed to be load shed later, but I don't have power now. So what's the point of the schedules?

I just do not see the point of something that does not work.
Without wanting to be harping on or derail my own thread, but - this is just another failed plan.

Surely it cannot be that difficult to set up AND STICK TO a schedule??

I am just glad I don't own a business - I would not want my income to depend on current operating hours! My deepest sympathy to all business owners.

Ok, here's how to do it :

Go to http://www.poweralert.co.za/poweral..._ID=0ad16c38fe4478f84333096a5403f6ad#info_top

and see where the dial is. If it's on the first brown block, then it's schedule 1. Second brown block is Schedule 2. Third brown block is Schedule 3.

Then, browse to http://www.poweralert.co.za/poweral...SID=833ad80af1036ff6fdfad2a74d9be5a5#info_top

and select your region.

Or else you can go directly to your municipality (eg tshwane.gov.za) website and look there.

Thanks goes to SweetViolet for this information.

It works pretty much as it says on the box for me. The key is to know what stage the power shortage is at at any time. For instance at stage 3 you might be load shed from 10h00 – 12h00 but not if the shortage is at stage 1.

I do suspect that its possible some areas were cut off not as per the schedule. Which is why I suspect the website now longer shows how much the shortage is or what stage we are in.

Except it dont work.
I go to citypower, click on the link and it sends me BACK to poweralert web site.
Its a vicious circle.

OK - but, back to my starting point.
My suburb, and surrounding ones, are not on the list.

Question: If it is "your time" and the stage is correct etc, does it go off ALWAYS - or is it still a lottery?
