the prestik helps about 75% of the beep, i usually sleep through it no problem but last night i was dozing off and almost asleep when all of a sudden i heard both UPS's and knew there is no way i can sleep through that for 150 minutes. So i got up to switch them off but by then i was wide awake so just surfed Youtube until 2:30am hahaha

Power going down, while at home is one thing. But hells bells, At least let me get 8 hours of work in. Productivity loss is real and incredibly annoying.
Even bouncing between home and office, and sitting in traffic for over an hour each way, doesn't help one bit.
What is this bs doing to the economy at large? Must be billions lost.

Nice dream you're having, Eskom doesn't care if the grid has a hospital on it. There is nothing critical in their eyes.

When we got to stage 6 last night, it dawned on me that there could be another explanation for the current load shedding.
On Thursday night, Cyril Ramaphosa instructed SAA board to voluntarily enter Business Rescue which was done on Friday morning. In the lead up to this, much had been said about the potential for a Business Rescue practitioner to renegotiate 1 sided contracts and the decision to place SAA into Business Rescue could be seen as a litmus test for potentially placing Eskom under Business Rescue.

Loadshedding starts the same day as SAA goes into business rescue. Initial reports are that loadshedding will start to ease on Monday, however on Monday morning, Mbalula places another SOE, PRASA, under administration and Ramaphosa comes out stating that government will not hesitate to take drastic steps against SOEs directly highlighting SAA:

The difference with SOEs is that they have often signed inflated, corrupt contracts that are completely 1 sided. What came out from the initial application by solidarity to place SAA under business rescue is this would open up an avenue for these contracts to be changed / cancelled legally.
The fight between Nersa and Eskom regarding the MYPD pricing is that Eskom is spending far more on coal than they should (according to Nersa's calculation). Eskom wants Nersa to change their calculation.
Eskom's cost of coal has gone through the roof. Being able to amend / cancel these contracts could potentially save Eskom R10 - R20 billion per year.

Eskom's current loss for this year is expected to be around R20bn. Reducing this by R16.7bn from coal alone would make a very different picture. This is why business rescue has a lot of potential for success in regards to these SOEs.

so overinflated contracts, selling Rocks and concrete to eskom, paying for coal twice, wet coal,

South Africa has been thrown into the unprecedented stage of stage six load shedding because an electrical supply panel at Medupi power station burned out on Monday, a source told Business Maverick. Another source told Business Maverick that the plant was down.
“Unit 4 was down for planned maintenance but the supply panel for the conveyor belt that takes coal to the plant burned out and it seems the whole plant is now shut down,” the source said. Eskom had not immediately responded to a request for comment.
Eskom earlier said that stage six – which takes 6,000MW out of the grid – had been implemented for the first time because of a “technical problem at Medupi power station impacting additional generation supply”.
The source also told Business Maverick that as of late Monday afternoon, Eskom’s internal systems indicated that 20,000MW were offline, 15,000MW more than the 5,000MW which should have been taken out for planned maintenance, underscoring the gravity of the crisis which may tip the economy into a recession and keep it pinned there for some time.
Eskom’s System Outlook document dated 22 July 2019 shows how the power utility planned to keep the lights on by spending up to R4.32-billion on diesel for its gas turbines by the end of December 2019.According to the document, leaked to the Daily Maverick earlier this year, the week of 9 December 2019 was always going to be tricky, given planned outages for maintenance and unplanned outages.
And that’s where Monday’s burn-out of the electrical supply panel at Medupi comes in.
According to the July 2019 Eskom System Outlook document, it’s back into green only on Saturday 14 December, although that may now change given the extent of Monday’s power output collapse. BM

To me it isn't the duration that is so hard, but keeping track of the changing time slots and stages. The CoCT schedule is very equitable, but every alternate day seems different, and even with careful planning I seem to get it wrong half the time.
