#POWER_ALERT 2: Date: 17 June 2018

Full recovery of the power system will take approximately ten days while the probability of Stage 1 loadshedding remains high for this evening

Collecting a new deep cycle battery tomorrow. If stage 2 tomorrow evening then I'm getting shedded. I'll be ready.

This is not Eskom related, but is a result of Eskom. On Friday evening, Fourways was a bloody disaster from all the traffic lights being down. To add insult to injury, there was a group of three black men running amok in traffic with guns, pulling people from cars and stealing stuff out of them. They pretty much could run free, as there was no way any SAPS or security vehicles could get to them as traffic was almost gridlocked. It's just a reminder to not be tempted to sit on your phones in that traffic, and keep your valuables in the boot.

Let me guess...on W/Nicol between Leslie and Kingfisher?

There's WhatsApp voice message doing the rounds this afternoon, ostensibly from a contractor to Eskom. In Afrikaans.

Basically says get petrol for your genny because the problems are about to get a lot worse. Claims people are allowed out, but strikers are not allowing anyone to enter sites. Units are facing shutdown at several baseload stations.

Have no idea how true this is. Could just be another bit of FN/spam/junk... but if real is rather concerning...

That went around last week Wednesday or thursday. In retrospect, accurate.

This one starts "Naand, almal. Uuuuh. Net so 'n vinnige update hier van Eskom se kant af. Die van julle wat generators en goed het, kry maar petrol vir hulle … errr … daar's groot probleme op die sites..."

As far as I know it was just that one day strike, Is it still going on?

In for another round?

High risk of load shedding this evening, Eskom warns

Eskom says there is a high risk of load shedding from 17:00 to 21:00 as the power system is severely constrained.

"The power system is expected to be severely constrained this evening from 5pm to 9pm, with a high risk of load shedding,” Eskom said in a statement.

The power utility first implemented load shedding on Thursday, following the disruption to supply caused by the workers’ demonstration.

Workers at power plants had abandoned their work posts amid intimidation and violence by fellow workers who are demanding wage increases.

Is there any way to definitely determine whether absence of power is load shedding or just City Power gone QWAAA

City Power are usually slow to tell areas if it is a fault and Eskom now threatening load shedding daily, this present darkness becomes a bit of a black hole :(
