The nod32 updates are a good service from openweb. Obviously free would be ideal
If the openweb service isnt for you, how about considering a webafrica prepaid account to use exclusively for updating your AV? Surely that R70 will go a long way
I just use a Webafrica prepaid account for all my updates and the odd international browsing. 1GB lasts about 2 or 3 months, I hardly even use international anymore.
Had my 1GB WA Pre-Paid now for almost a year. Most of it got gobbled up by Windoze updates, which always seem to come through at the end of the month when I'm using local only with WA Pre-Paid. Hate it when I see the MB's piling up and I can't do anything about it.
Had Norton and it use to update local, but Norton slowed my already old PC so much, it is almost better to live with the viruses than with Norton . When my subscription ended, I tried AVG. Seem to work well and getting much better performance from my PC, but I find it annoying when its update window pop up while I'm not connected to international and I have no intention to connect to international and I have to keep on hitting the cancel button.
So I was just wondering, since many people use AVG and there is a place to configure the update server URL, if there was a local one out there to use.
PS. Found a source of local windows updates at UCT. Seem to work, applied the registry update and about an hour later got a message - updates ready to install, while connected to local only.
