Local blogging platform closes down

Poor excuse for closing

The excuse given by M&G for closing is pathetic. The simple addition of a CAPTCHA on their blogging system would've stopped the problem in its tracks. 1 Hour of coding and they could've saved it from the spam bots.

Blogging platforms are so tired and overdone nowadays...can't they come up with something new and different?

"Few active users" is quite a compelling reason.

The true story behind the closure of Amagama can be found at http://davidrobertlewis.wordpress.com/2009/01/16/creative-commons-take-down-notice/

I am in the process of writing up a posting detailing how the M&G fluffed it by killing a vibrant online blogging community, one of South Africa's first i.e. M&G Blogmark.

M&G sacrificed their brand by getting into bed with right-wing conservatives and killing the Creative Commons licensing scheme, in the process the founder Vince Maher was rewarded with a job at Vodacom and the result was a travesty of justice, as bloggers left in droves, voting with their keyboards.
