Those of you that know me from previous posts will know that I am lucky enough to live in town that is inside a National park and to the effect we have Jackals, Gemsboks, Springboks,Ostriches and the odd Hyena wandering our streets...
It is not uncommon to see traffic stop whilst a gemsbok crosses the road.
Anyhow, a lot of dog owners are causing problems.....
I received this email from a local resident...
"Dear friends ~ today I saw this ... which I am sure a number of you did.
When will it be realised that there is a cycle being initiated here. Domesticated animals start taking down wild animals and they will continue to do so. People leave their gates open in town because they do not want their dogs to faeces in their yard; because they do not want to feed their dogs; because they are too lazy to close their gates on their way to work.
At night they do not check that their pets are back in their yard; they again do not feed their animals; do not give them the attention required.
For some reason there is this thought that by neutering or spaying your animal you are taking away their manliness when in fact you will be:
Promoting their life, preventing additional expenses, preventing unwanted litters.
Are we waiting for a child to be bitten??
This after seeing earlier in the week how a herd of young ones gathered at OPS.
By far it is not the dogs f ault – it is the human who is at fault!
They should be taking responsibility for what is in their care.
Not only do they have pets in their care but also nature on their doorstep
which should be taken care of for generations to come."
