Local Dogs Attacking Wildlife!

Name and shame the owners of the dogs.

I would give something (both if you know what I mean) to live in a town like OP's with the lovely animals around. Unfortunately my dad sold our farm near Dordabis in Nam as part of his pension years ago, had a lot oryx, kudu, springbuck and other wild animals. Fond memories remain, brother in law still farming on neighbouring farm.

Got a few locals telling me that the bok that was attacked by the dogs has been found dead on one of our streets...

So why the artificial distinction between domesticated animals and wild animals? Surely dogs are part of nature?

They are not. They are domesticated by humans.

Oh my gosh....that is amazingly CUTE!!!!!!

I would not be able to stop myself from running after them trying to cuddle them....but I am sure the mamma wont hesitate to impale me with those horns!

nope.

They are domesticated, they are not wild and don't really have a place in nature.

I guess you cant blame them. They are dogs after all and do have a hunting instinct left to some degree. I would NEVER allow my dog to do that though. I would be distraught if I had to find out my dog did that to such a beautiful creature.

Saw our cat playing with one of our akkedisse in the garden a while go. Started running and yelling at Amigo trying to get him to stop, but it was too late. I was heartbroken to see the broken akkadis lying there. It was too late.

Nothing, the entire town is in a nature reserve, in addition to the Gemsboks, we also have Ostriches,Strandwolwe,Springbok,Steenbokkies and jackals......

I just received news yesterday that springbok pelts had been found down at the local hostel, which means that the workers are now culling the local herd which numbers about 60.

Whilst speaking to my mate, who is a chief in the local park about this yesterday, he reckons that they cannot do anything about the dogs or springbok culling as it is happening on what he terms "townlands" and is thus the local councils problem.... the townlands is a block of about 3km by 7km and the wildlife wanders into the town..... It is against the law to kill them..... My mate reckons this will become a bigger problem in the years to come....all he is concerned about , is protecting the wildlife in the park....
