Local DVD pirates busted

Yayayayay!! those bloody hawkers irritate me. And why do people buy from them??!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooOOooOOOOOOOOOoooOO!

*sheds a tears* all those beautiful copies that will never be watched

Why do cops let those hawkers sell the dvd's at robots, i saw the other day a cop car at a robot and a dvd seller but the cop just drove off :D

Guess he had about 48 murders to investigate or some doughnuts to go chow :D.

:D It think it's like trying to stop illegal immigrants in this country. You fight a losing battle? Or is it that cops like these DVD's?

You sir are under arrest for suspicion of selling ... um ... um ... um ... pirated material.
Wait, that's not in my charge book, so when I try to book him, I cannot fill out the documentation properly.

Maybe it's not his job. He may as well check if those cell phone chargers which are being sold at street corners are also legitimate and not copies infringing on copyrights. Why should only "DVDs" be protected. IP exists in everything.

Besides why should a cop protect IP? If the guy was selling watches, would the cop have stopped him to see if their serial numbers weren't on the list of stolen Rolex watches?

It is ilegal to hawk on intersections. No matter what. Even handing out flyers are breaking traffic laws. Sooo yes the should arrest the guys with the chargers too.

A cop cannot just arrest anybody. There has to be a case filed at the local police station.

But then it's for a different purpose, not IP rights enforcement.

The police can harass them for having copied CD's fake ray ban's and the metro can take them for a traffic violation. So why is this not done?

ooo wait it's like too much work...

No, if he susupects you are violating the law, you can be arrested. They can hold you between 24-48hrs except on weekends to substantiate that claim.

Peter selling pirated dvd's is illegal, crime = cops regardless.

Yes, it is too much work. They should focus their time on sorting SA's violent crime out before trying to figure out whether a DVD is "fake"

Prioritise they must.

I wish the hawkers would move down here. I'm soooo sick of the same old drip fed crap in all our stores far too often without the extras and subtitles thanks to Numetro, Ster, and Next.

Actually, Metro do act - any given Saturday I see them loading up hawker's goods in our area.
Probably make a pretty penny selling it when it "disappears" from the police station....

The goods would be taken to the Booysens police station on Friday
from where they will disappear into the policemens' homes.

Let's also arrest people downloading illegaly, specially those ones wit the big connections that keep saying they want uncapped.

The cops are cracking down on the right people. Arresting the guy at the robot is going to do nothing, at most his going to show up and ur window and put a bullet in your head for a cellphone.

As much as I hate hawkers, I think it's better them trying to sell things (which are provided to them by the real criminals) than killing us. They are not committing violent crimes, and the mostly the people that loose out are the people that rob us in the first case.
