local servers for vista SP1

I think I referred to a thread that had local links in the Hardware and Software FAQ

Though they might've been hosted on UUNet

EDIT: I do believe it'll use local traffic if you download it from the Microsoft website.

It does use local traffic if you update via Windows update/ MS website.

That's true.

You can get the download link on an international account and just switch to local to download it. Would have been cool if the whole interwebs worked that way

Just confirmed that downloads from www.microsoft.com/downloads do actually use local bandwidth. This is awesome now if we could just get the gmail servers on local as well.

Microsoft uses Akamai servers to cache the content over to local, I doubt Gmail would be able to do it though, unless they use some type of super fast copy/caching method?
