Hi all I heard that telkom had removed the local sites from the capp limit is there any truth in this. This also i have applied for the 1024 connection and telkom made the changes within 20 minutes. Although i was advised it would take 7 workings days. i hope i would recived the 4mb connection for free but it seems i average around the 1.8 mb speed any thoughts is this due to them testing the line of is it just a fast 1024. When we were on the 512k our modem average 640 connection thanks for any advise.

I'm sure telkom would have made a loud announcement if they removed the local cap - thats what they do.

1.8 might be the max you get on your line but you should try some of the various speed tests locally and internationally to verify. If you have a router log into its interface and see what your sync rate is.

i think i heard about the uncapping od local sites on this forum as it goes

Its an upto4092 service, so check what you are synching at... its possible you were unable to get a full 4092 synch and have been synched at the closest possible value...Ur line speed is proportional to your synch rate...

http://www4.gam.co.za/connectivity/bandwidth.php used this site i wish i undestood what you meant
Depending on the distance between yourself and the exchange as well as the quality of the line you might not be in a position to get higher speeds - the speed can also be affected by other problems outside of your control.

Do you use a router? If so can you read off the sync speed - that will give you an idea of the theoretical max you can expect. Mine says the Down Stream is 4096 (Kbps.). Some people report speeds much lower than this.

What does telkom's speed test say? http://www.telkom.co.za/athome/products/dsl/speed1.html

telkom report read like this Your line speed is approximately 272000 Kbps or 33333.3 kBytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

I have a netgear super wireless router DG834GT cant see any sync speed there just the current conection and every time i re-boot the router it seems to give a different connection speed? is that normal or a telkom issue
