If you make local video calls using Skype does it eat up local or international bandwidth? Also how much bandwidth for a 15 minute video call for example

Its peer to peer so it should be local.

I ran a test once using Skype between my dad and I - he gets internet access from me via wifi. We connected the call with internet connected, then unplugged the ADSL router. Call continued perfectly with only wifi lan working. So yeah. Should go via local cap.

Interesting.

I would have said no, because you have to log into the service on a server which sits somewhere overseas, but I just tested it with a local-only account from WA and it worked fine where audio is concerned.

I have a webcam, but have never calculated the bandwidth usage. It would be difficult to give you an estimate, because the video uses dynamic compression which adjusts itself from moment to moment to try and remain stable, while the stability of the underlying network link may jitter due to varying network conditions.

Needs the international for initial connection I'd assume. But Skype is a network pest. That thing connects no matter what!

If it can smell an internet connection it'll use it.

It logs in just fine with local-only. At first I thought it may be working slower than through an International link, but after phoning the testing service twice to try and confirm this, I would have to say it works just great. Maybe I will get a chance later today to test video as well.

/me looks at the grey circly thingy doing it's roundabout.

Nope.. My version bust be the semi behaved one that does not like Local Only :( lol

I always understood it to be international only. When my international is down, the Skype client disconnects, so how is anybody local going to be able to call me?

All my skype accounts also die when the cap is reached. It would be great to get it to work with local only then i can switch over to local only for all my accounts.

Strange. Am on local-only again now and it is not working.

Maybe this morning's attempt was a hiccup in the system which allowed it to connect.

That or WA read my post and plugged the hole! :D

Looks like it requires international. Damn :o
