No, because not everyone shares. A swarm with 10 people who share is more productive than a swarm with 10,000 people who don't. Leechers create shortfalls that have to be subsidised out of somebody elses pocket, or written off altogether. Strict quality control helps local torrents sites to balance the bandwidth books.

OK. By "waiting to upload" don't you mean, waiting 12-24 hours to DOWNLOAD the new stuff (and that's because your ratio is poor you fukkin leech), and they have a perfectly good public area where anyone can upload, so don't talk crap about waiting to upload. Thats the most bullsh1t I've heard all week.

One thing I hate more than leechers is someone who lies.

The same (or similar) rules apply on international torrent sites. It has nothing to do with the "SA mindset". Go cry somewhere else.
 
Could someone tell me what the big deal about local torrents is. Do they run faster? If so how fast does a decent torrent run?
Are you all on IS accounts ?

No they dont , at least not on any I use.
 
Torrentbytes, Filelist - have wait times and boot you for poor ratios (as do most sites, it's only fair).
 
Tried torrentbytes , couldnt get an account cos its full up. I see though that they only have 675 torrents. Why are they better than say, torrentspy, which has thousands , doesnt require a log in and doesnt boot for poor ratios ?
 
Well obviously you have no account on a public tracker so there are no wait times nor can you get your account deleted if you have a poor ratio.

The non-public sites are generally more reliable. I was simply saying that on the majority of international torrent sites, wait times and account deletion for poor ratios is pretty standard and has nothing to do with a "SA mindset".

Fair enough, but id still like to know why anyone would want to use a local torrent site. Im betting they dont have that many torrents available.
 
They obviously don't have a lot of international bandwidth.
 
Ok guys

I have created chaos here, the local sites is a bit faster but not to much and my account only caps me on international and not local (i think) so that was the reason. But now i am banned form the site....bad luck....now with the nice part....some guy(s) is sending me emails with virusus since that. (guess thay must be the torrent site people).

While I don't support the big leechers .... everyone at some time was a leecher. If a guy genuinely has nothing to trade yet, let him start somewhere. Took me over a year on dial-up to get what I have now and if someone wants a coupla files (not dozens) .... go for it buddy. Gotta see it from the torrent sites point too though but not to the extent where they get too exclusive .... don't forget, so called broadband in S.A is still new to a lot of peeps who can't believe how much stuff is available online.

I just wish I had more technical knowledge so I could contribute. I used to love Torrents before Telkom started to shape the **** out of it, now I have insufficient knowledge of how to work around this.

I am gonna have to get some 18 year old PFY to optimise my system if I want to use Torrents again.

Actually I' m not lying. That is what happened. If you are one of the gay for martial arts guys, have a look. I posted the torrents, but couldn't upload, cos I had to wait for the designated period.
