Hi ... I've read a couple of times that the Apple updates are local. There was a link posted for the OSX 10.5.4 Combo Update.

I've tried the Software Update with local ... and no luck.
I've tried to download the Combo Update with the link provided on local, and it downloads, but it is the mega 500+MB combo update.

Does anyone have the url for the list of available downloads on local so that I can go in and download?

Thanks in advance.

Just start the download on international, pause, switch to local, continue downloading on local :).

Okay I feel a little dumb here... what do you mean by local update downloads? Do you mean from your own update server or from a local "Apple/Core" server? If its the latter, please post a "how-to" on using this feature?

Hi VertigoZA,

We all either use the Software Update feature in OSX or go to apple/downloads/osx and download the relevant update file. This uses up valuable bandwidth, especially when a combination of updates comes to 400+MB.

There was a suggestion that these OSX updates are available on a locally, or can be downloaded by using only local bandwidth. I will try what Dobee said and see if that works.

Someone in the 10.5.4 Update forum posted a full link to a locally downloadable file. I want to know what the links are to other files, so that I can select the relevant downloads and go for it rather than using up my international bandwidth.

Where does one get that link from?

All of Apple's downloads are akamai'sed so all you need to do is queue the download from apple's main site, pause it while you switch to a local only account and then resume it - alternatively run software update and before you select Install (and keep package) switch to local only.

Hi ... thanks Bwana.

Tried both methods.
1. Running the Software Update, then switching to local, and then hitting "Install and Keep". This doesn't work.
2. Selecting the relevant downloads from the apple/downloads/macosx/ site. Starting the downloads and then stopping them, and then switching to local and restarting the download. This is a "bugger" but it works perfectly.

I learnt something new ... which could save me a few hundred precious international MB's per month.

Thanks,

JayN

Strange - option 1 always works on my end.

For option 2 - a download manager might help
