Local WoW server a possibility?

If that happens I wont just eat my words I will also eat my shoe but ja I think I have more chance of falling pregnant than that happening

Sigh... always so negative, maybe you are right. But if we do by some small chance get a local server I hope you will be willing to eat your words. :p

I know it wont happen, our hosting infrastructure is to expensive it will not be a lucrative deal for blizzard, currently we are forced to pay intl costs for the game time which gives blizz more money based on exchange rate. So i say again, it wont happen, and even if it where to happen i would not play on local servers anyways.

Well when they created the new servers for the russians they did open free migration, so hopefully we would get the same thing.

The russians internet infrastructure doesnt cost an arm and a leg. Ours does.

True, but from the article:

"iGame, iBurst's gaming department, is offering to host the server using their own staff, equipment and resources. All they need is permission from Blizzard."

So that's already in our favor, there might not be a great chance of this happening, but I think it's the closest we've ever come, and a small chance is better than no chance.

lol, lies all lies.

I know you will move for the latency, you love low latency :p

You know that IBusts has terrible latency, and why the hell would i play on a server that is hosted on a potentially wirelesss/satellite solution.

No chance in hell

@Pitbull

Yep i love low latency i which i am currently getting on ravenholdt (290-330) , i can deal with that. Plus i think i would get slightly annoyed with a entire server of south africans with south african slang. Yo Bruuu did you just check bra i just one shot KT.

@ BuriedUnderGround
Free character migration is unlikely, although it is good to discuss these things now so that Megarom can include details in their proposal. I think the best thing though would be to ask as little from Blizzard as possible. The more we ask for the less likely it is that they will comply, it’s simple. I don’t think a once of transfer fee is a lot to ask.

@ Semaphore
Then you are truly enlightened and knowledgeable because you currently know what local networking professionals and distributers, not to mention Blizzard, do not. If it was not viable, do you think iGame would be throwing money at it?

Do you think they just woke up one morning and were like “hey, let’s call up Blizzard and ask if we can host a WoW server” without doing any research? They obviously know what it costs to run a network, so I think it would be pertinent to not write this whole thing off as implausible without really looking into what they are trying to do. You may just end up looking silly.

Lets be honest, that will be pretty fun to read :D But I full get what you're saying. I will most prob move my account to local. To be it's about playing and hanging around with firends and so on. Be it on an international or local server. All the same to me :p

How does blizzard get more money from people paying in rands, than from those paying in euro's or dollars or pounds ? Because your rand amount has more digits than the pound/euro/dollar amount doesnt mean its more money.......what it means is that your rand amount is worth less, therefore needs more digits to compensate....:D

iBurst do not run their entire network wirelessly. They run a number of CoD4/Unreal Tournament 3/CoD5 servers off of their cable back haul and it works very well.

last year September/October the same discussion was held by SACM but the feedback they got from Blizzard BACK Then was that is was not financially feasbile for them to have infrastructure and services in our country as South Africa only makes up something stupid like 0.12% of valid account holders.

Hopefully, if someone, at their own expense, wants to host and maintain. It might work :)
