To all potential local WoW server owners:

a) if it's hosted on a "fast" line it can afford a static IP address
b) why the hell does SA need yet another ****ing server.

This is typical of the South African mindset (of those who don't want to pay to play or can't afford to)

Listen. Contact each other, collaborate resources, get a decent server going for everyone on ONE system.

Stop pushing the 4 players that do join onto 4 different servers just because you can't agree or at least communicate with other "server leaders" out there on how to run something.

There's a joke that goes:

"What do you get when 7 South Africans get stranded on an island?"

4 political parties and 5 churches

dude we need another one as to give people a choice or do you think monopoly on something is the way to go? A better faster server means we can get international as well as local players to play. The other Big sa server deleted everyone's account. A reliable Gm there told me the reason was because of the increased latency because of hundreds of people raiding. Allot of people are unhappy that months of hard work leveling character just go deleted. What is the point of playing wow if you cant even enjoy the funnest part the end game because of high latency?

I understand that. But please, if anything, understand this:

Line Speed <> Server Load
Latency <> Server Speed

If you have a server with 30 gig ram, 20 bajillion ghz CPU's with 56 bazillionkatrillion of hard drive space, and host it on a 56k modem... then latency and line speed will make that people who raid (or just normally want to play) can't do so properly.

Please read before you post.

Once again... face palm :/

I agree 100% whats the point if you do have 500 emo server players playing on 15 different servers? Theres not enough people for a 25 man raid group!

I understand that. I misunderstood your comment. Im not the programmer of the server but i know the costs. 20 000 a month. 50 000 for the server. Private server will never be able to compete with almost no lag of the official. there will always be lag, but we can at least try and minimize it. I know of a few people that played on private servers, but because of the bugs and the limited functionality of the beta state of private servers people go to the official. But one also has to consider that thousands of people cant afford the official. Another server will never do any harm, just give more people the opportunity to enjoy the game.

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime (metaphorically speaking, of course).

Again its not a crime. If you don't understand how to interpret a court case ask a lawyer to read it for you.

More slowly this time? M-E-T-A-P-H-O-R-I-C-A-L-L-Y speaking (yes, its in Webster's if you're having trouble).

You dont see pirated copies of Ferraris driving around. Or cheaper movies with same titles just less known actors acting in the same script. Or wait, maybe there is another hotel opposite a luxury hotel using "cheaper" merchandise to offer same quality.

Please, wake up, stop stealing other peoples ideas.

The point is if you cant afford it, then stay away. And frankly speaking, it is 1 Macdonalds "dinner" and movie with G/F a month to cover my fees. So nothing astronomical.

Errr....ok this has gotten bit off subject....
Like most of the people here i aswell started on a emu...Im glad i did ..Its more like a demo of wow and the servers crashed alot but thats how most of us learned how to play it.... Frankly this whole "non-stop" argument of emu servers being wrong in the eyes of some is really getting irritating...Ask anyone whos been playing wow for a few years that started on a emu,the emu actually helped make the choice to go to official. Btw for those of you who dont know Original wow and a 60 day GT cost more than R700 in those days...So i say let the emu's run..Its definitely doing its part in recruiting players for official. Ive been playin official for the last 3 years ...but ye definitely wont go back to the emu's :P

The 10 day trial is worth more than playing on an emu trust me. On emu server you don't generally get to experience the community as much as you would with the actual game.

If you can't "dedicate" 10 days for the trial version of the game to then make up your mind to actually pay to play then why even bother? Official FTW

Eh join an actual official server and play with acceptable latency and actually never have your chars deleted unless you're a dedicated chop?

Dunno but im happy with my 300ms latency with a full server raiding sunwell, but mebe thats just me ^.^

I agree with PsyWolf, I would rather pay my R120 pm or whatever it works out to... that's less than even the lightest of nights out. You don't even notice spending that amount of cash in a month, it's 10 litres of petrol in a month. Peanuts.

And for that R120 I get guaranteed satisfaction, 99%+ uptime, no bugs, 15000 players to play with per "full" server, trained and paid for GM assistance, no worries about months or years of work on a character being deleted etc etc etc.

So besides the R120 which is worth every cent for what I'm getting, the only disadvantage is latency... and honestly even that is getting better, I am getting 250 - 300ms. Consistent. So official wins my money.

/spit emu server

I have to QFT this post. I did the same, started off in 1.4.2, left for Official in 1.9, never looked back

Nowadays i cant stand emu's, because the pricing has come down drastically since 'those' days... WoW is now affordable

Playing US servers cost me about R 115 a month, I spend more than that on 1 nights takeaways or drinking/braai's etc. Thats R 3.83 a day
