Does anyone know of a company with the expertise (and soldering skill) to be able to repair an Apple Logic Board? Cost of replacement just doesnt seem worth it but I'm convinced a highly skilled computer technician may be able to coax it back to life!

Maybe if it was something simple, I think you can replace faulty capacitors on a motherboard.

The pins for the display connector have broken. Pins are pretty tiny so almost impossible to hand solder but I have heard of repair companies in the states which have the machinery to fix this sort of thing.

Post nice clear pictures of the connector, top & bottom, with a ruler next to it for scale indication and I'll tell you what your options are.

Also need the model of the apple product in case a new connector is required.

Which area are you located in so I can point you in the right direction?

I'm in Joburg. iMac is currently with DigiCape so can't get any pictures just yet. They havent had any luck with the repair so far...

Okay a company in Cape Town called Repairs.com tell me that they are 99% sure they can repair. Of course that involves me shipping the iMac down to CT which wont be a cheap. Anyone heard of this company or know of a Joburg based equivalent?

Portech 011 886 5238
Allan McKinnon & Associates 011 704 3020

If you can source the connector there are many electronics places that will be able to do the job.

The actual display connector is fine. Its the pins attached to the logic board that are broken.

Thanks for the advice, Portech reckon they can fix it so lets see how it goes.

Walk in the park to fix so Portech will do just fine. I could probably fix them for you if I had a finer tip on my soldering iron/station and lived closer.

I have used them a couple of times for various mainboard jobs. Dennis is your man there 021 5105517. I have 1000% confidence in his work based on personal experience.

Your average computer techies can't do ***** worth electronics. The one place I worked at (nation wide offices) the guys didn't even know how to use a multimeter, let alone what a soldering iron looks like. I fixed tv's / etc. for a living and although it does not appeal to some, I was astounded how PC techies hadn't the faintest clue about electronics.

They claimed herecy when I fixed my Nvidia card with a soldering iron. :p

Sorry for the derail, I hope you get it right mate.

i would need details on the board. There is a gent that repairs all kinds of things on mainboards & laptops for me. I can then discuss this with him & see if he can help you.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Unfortunately I have had no luck with 3 separate repair companies. All 3 admitted defeat after a while. It seems now my only alternative is to replace the logic board. I am trying to source one in the states as Core have quoted me more then the replacement cost of the whole iMac!

Can you post a clear picture of the problem?

Collecting it on Friday so will post a pic as soon as I can after then. Not sure how much the pic will reveal though. To the naked eye the pins appear repaired.

Okay, I've now managed to find a 2nd hand logic board at a reasonable price. The price however is based upon exchanging my broken logic board for the replacement board. Could anyone recommend a technician in Joburg that will be able to remove my current logic board and then install the replacement when it arrives?

I've previously used Portech but I had a bad experience with them so would be grateful for any other recommendations.

Thanks!
