Genuinely curious as to why these two brands feature so prominently when South Africans are polled with regards to preference? This is not a "scientific" discussion with peer reviewed data sets or verified sources - more so anecdotal evidence when speaking to people and watching the odd MyBB poll. For clarity I am referring to Logitech Peripherals and Samsung Phones. And go...

Name other brands people readily know of besides Apple? Cause a lot of layman will stick to Samsung and Logitech as that was what they've seen a lot of.
They won't know of Xiaomi offering decent phones for a good price or Foxxray keyboard and mice, or Microlabs for PC speakers.

High quality (everything's relative of course) and few readily available alternatives.

Microlab has many speakers on the low end, so I just assumed them to be another cheap Chinese crap brand until I saw reviews of their higher end stuff.

I also usually read reviews around phone replacement time, and the Samsung Phone alternatives just never do it for me when it comes to price vs features.

Price vs features? Have you actually checked those phones properly? Samsung is pricey for barely any features.

OK, I have to admit it was 3 years ago since I last looked at phone reviews to buy a new phone.
I looked at the One Plus, which was 20% cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy as the time, but no wireless charging and not waterproof I think? The xiaomi and the rest were a similar story.
They pretty much all reviewed significantly worse when they are cheaper, or when they have similar reviews they have a similar price. Then the Samsung appeared to give a more well rounded experience than some of the others which would be strong in one area and weak in another.

Of course now with the R10k trade in on an S22 I didn't need to compare.

If you start going up to flagship it does get a bit different, but in the low to mid end Samsung doesn't offer the same value at all.

Logitech - if you ever needed assistance from them, you will see the level of service your get is phenomenal. The issue I had was I lost the mouse receiver, nothing actually wrong with the mouse.

After that experience, I will always only buy a logitech mouse if I ever need to replace my current one (which I have had for years).

Logitech peripherals last. Quality is solid. I have tried loads of other brands including: Microsoft, Corsair, Roccat, Razer, Steel Series to name a few. Always end up going back to Logitech.
Corsair headset gave up just as the warranty expired.
Razer Huntsman started ghost typing.
Roccat keyboard gave up just as the warranty expired, poor support.
Never had an issue with Microsoft peripherals tbh.

Logitech: Mice (G902) & Keyboard (G815)
Headset: Steel Series (Arctis 7)
Display: Huawei (Previous: Asus, AOC, ViewSonic, Lenovo, Samsung)

I just checked I bought this mouse in 2013 - almost going on 10 years without any issues.

Personally I have no major issue with Logitech, my problem (as a Gamer) is that good quality left-handed gaming mice are almost impossible to find locally... Razer (not my favourite brand) makes a few that from a cost/time to import point of view have served me well over the years. Work-wise I am on a Mac and their Magic Mouse (also not the best Bluetooth mouse) works well due to the ambidextrous form factor

I've been Logitech for close to 14 years now and I've tried several other brands of peripherals - Razer, Steelseries, Corsair etc. Nothing lasts like Logitech in my experience. I have a Razer Mamba Elite and after just over 2 years, it's starting to give me issues. The G502 I had lasted for more than 4 years before I wanted to try something else. My Z5500 speakers are 13 years old and still kicking ass.

I am impressed with the Steelseries Arctis 7 and Corsair K68 I have, but if they fail or start giving issues, I'll definitely go back to Logitech. Also, I won't buy anything Razer again. It's just not as impressive as it used to be.

Marketing. EVERY Logitech mouse that I have purchased over 20 something years eventually had a problem (mostly random double clicks or hold and drag), and yet every mouse I have owned, past and present are Logitech

Never had a bad experience with Logitech, and I've had a few (headsets, keyboards, mice, etc.) over the years.

The only Samsung device in our house is a microwave which is fine, I guess...it's an appliance. It heats up food, so I am happy with it.

Never liked Samsung phones as (back then) TouchWiz was terrible and their initial OLED phones had burn-in issues, so they never really appealed to me as a competitor.

I've actually experienced similar. Mine used to double click on the back button.

There was a software fix for the G lineup.
