Logitech G510

If you can live without the LCD rather get a mechanical keyboard. There is a big wright up on tomshardware I think about all of the different Cherry MX keys. My favorite and easy(ish) to get mechanical keyboard is the Thermaltake G1 or G Unit, which uses Cherry MX black keys.

There is a lot of mechanical keyboards out there, check eBay as well but it can get quite expensive. spending more than R1k on a keyboard im going to thrash to death just doesn't seem worth it imo.

@Flikka, that is your opinion :)

my happens to be the exact opposite... (after my experience)

I had a basic Logitech multimedia kb, then I got a Razer Black Widow Ultimate. I was pumped for the purchase. Did the research (as I always do before I buy hardware) and I got it the next day. Awesome looking piece of hardware, and feels SOLID you can beat someone to death with it no problem. Awesome braided material cable, nice long cable. Plugged it in, and lit up... Looked awesome. The individual blue LED lighting was above par...

Then I started to use it, and it drove me up the bloody wall :wtf:

It takes a special type of person to be able to survive... click click click click click click click click click I thought I was one of those people, but hell nooooooooo after a week I sold it on the forums

and got myself a real keyboard, a Logitech G510

and dont listen to people that downplay a LCD screen. I have everything I need on display on my screen. CPU activity/CPU temps/GPU temps/ RAM usage/ incoming&outgoing bandwidth etc etc

never looked back :)

Thats because the Razer black widow uses cherry mx blue keys and that is their trademark CLICK CLICK CLICK.... I listened to a few Youtube videos of that keyboard and yes its very annoying. The cherry mx black keys are soft, you only hear the key press when it bottoms out, but they require more force to press down, it becomes a problem if you have the strength of a baby.

My experience with the black and red keys are just awesome. The other option is Corsair's K60 and K90 keyboards that uses red keys but its not a full mechanical keyboard, it combines with the norm.

It's an epic piece of tech, I've got the older version and love it. The LCD screen doesn't do much more than display performance info but it's still totally worth it, I use it for team speak as well and I have seen quite a few other cool aps to use on it. the feedback from the keys are also quite epic, but dead silent... I'm not to sure about this model but mine is powered by a single USB port, unlike the G19 which requires an external power source. Might be something worth taking into consideration.

The only thing to consider when purchasing this keyboard is the amount of desk space you have available, mine with a single set of G keys doesn't leave much room on a standard keyboards drawer.

Ahhh, thank you guys.. Guess I'll be having a new G510 on my desk in a couple of days... I've really been putting off getting a new keyboard.
I'm still using a Sahara Multimedia keyboard and the letters are faded already. :p

It just wasn't one of my main concerns.. but the G510 is too epic to ignore the calling... :D

So i got my G510 but it's the version with the tiny left shift key.

Does anyone know where I can get a G510 with the regular size left shift key?

My friends always laugh at me when I chat to them on a Skype call and type stuff or whatever.... yes, the BlackWidow (Ultimate) has a lovely audible feedback system :D

The G510 is nice, but yeah... I wouldn't. But do go for it if you like it, it's not a bad kb by any means.

to all you okes that have Logitech KB's that have a screen

http://www.linkdata.se/software/lcdsirreal/

its simple, but you can get everything you need on that screen. I keep my CPU load, CPU temps, GPU temps, RAM usage amongst some others. Also like the one that shows incoming/outgoing network traffic

very cool :)

You will get used to it... promise! :)

No dude, I've spent 25 years of my life using a BIG left shift key.. there is no way in hell that i would get used to a tiny one.

It also doesn't make any sense for FPS when you under pressure and under fire and you wanna RUN but your finger is hitting everything else besides the left shift key..

I've already sent it back before my 7 days grace is over.

I really like the keyboard and really hope I can get one with a BIG left shift. I didn't even know that they made gaming keyboards with tiny left shift keys.. (facepalm)

When I get my G510 back (with the normal left shift key) this is what I'll be using.. TY! :)

+1, switches meant for typists, and technically not suitable for hardcore gaming (repetitive keystrokes). Amazing how the sound sells the keyboard. :D They don't feel too bad though (tested the arrow keys in the packaging cut-out :D)!

OP, I like Logitech, but if you're looking for the best, look at a mechanical keyboard. Black/brown switches are popular for gaming. Thermaltake Maka 1 (I think that's it), Steelseries 6Gv2/7G are locally available ones.

Although funnily enough, even though the blues are made for typing, it's a gaming kb :D

Seems like I will have to import a proper G510, with the regular Left Shift.. all local suppliers have the tiny left shift - Just wish I knew earlier as I just had an order arrive yesterday.

Would it be worth it to import it?
Does anyone know when Logitech is coming out with some new shiiit ?
