Logitech MX Master 4 - The worst mouse I've ever experienced

I used my MX series until button actuators wore out (years).

Replaced with a GPro that wore out far too soon and then just got gatvol of super expensive mice and got a G305 which has now served faithfully for more than 3 years.

With the Logitech (and other) mice I replace the original Omron microswitches with generic ones when they start giving trouble. The experience is the same after a few days of settling in. Some of their newer G Pro and and G502 X mice have gone over to hybrid optical-mechanical switches so no idea how well the replacement on these would go.
 
Still trying to get used to the MX Ergo Trackball mouse. I am having trouble with it staying connected and it keeps changing to the channel 2 randomly when pressing middle mouse.

Have the Cadmouse Compact also on the way. Has a dedicated middle mouse button.
 
I'm definitely sold on a trackball mouse. It gets better and better everyday in terms of the trackball experience. Actually it is amazing for cad work and working in a 3D environment is bliss. Navigation in 3D is smooth and doing a 180 turn is just a quick flick with the thumb. Something I need to get used to is the Aim. Stop. Lift and then Click. But it is getting better and faster.

I saw many complaints about a trackball not being accurate. In fact it is the opposite, it is extremely accurate. With Raw Accel (free) and Custom Curve (paid) you have full control over the mouse acceleration. For small movements I have it on slow and smooth and then it increases as you move faster. You can also set it for how far it must move depending on the force you apply. You can also adjust vertical movement to be different to the horizontal movement.

The MX Ergo S however I have some gripes with. Mostly button placement and some issue with the Fast Switch button that activates itself.

I have an earlier version of this mouse on a media centre. It also gets taken along as a laptop mouse for things like conferences where the seating is going to be very close. Not needing mousing elbow room can be advantageous in these situations.
 
MX Ergo A alongside the Cadmouse Compact. The scroll wheel on the Cadmouse is amazing.

Edit: Cadmouse is poor quality and started making noise when clicking. Returned.

It has hyper scrolling built into the firmware. So flick the wheel faster and it will scroll through document and pick up speed until you flick it one step back. It is not the same as on the MX 4 mouse wheel that was on a magnet or something, that didnt work for cad software.

The MX Ergo wheel / firmware is dumb. It only wants to scroll line by line. Going faster or slower makes no difference.

In comparison it makes up for all the negatives of the MX 4. The buttons click easily. Has a dedicated middle mouse (take some getting used to). Has hyperscrolling but not as sensitive as the MX 4. It is not very heavy. Side buttons sit in a logical location and you dont have to reach for them. It is more compact which works for me being used to claw grip.

What would have been nice is if it had a horizontal scroll wheel. It also has soft clicky buttons, but which I find strangely satisfying having used silent mouses for many years. I asked my wife if she can hear the clicks and she said no, its gentle and soft.

I am not satisfied with the quality of the Cadmouse Compact. It is making an awful rattling noise when clicking the buttons. Waiting to hear from Geewiz. Hope it is just this unit as I have mentioned that I really like the scroll wheel and the dedicated middle mouse button and side buttons.

So I ended up getting the MX Master 3S after being very disappointed with the poor quality of the 3DConnexion Mouse.

The Master 3S is far superior to the Master 4. This is a clear case of newer is not always better.

The buttons on the 3S is easy to press. The middle mouse button works great. The scroll wheel rachet mode doesn't have the drift issue that I experienced with the 4. The mouse is lighter. The side buttons is better plase and so is the horizontal scroll. The downward thumb button makes a lot more sense than the Master 4.

I would say the Master 3S is a great companion the Master Ergo S. On both of them there is a concern on the rubber coating wear over time. But they both feels really great. The 3S also sits much more comfortable in my palm compared to the 4. Ergonomically it makes sense.

So I am going to call this a win.

Nice.

I just cleaned my MX3 this morning, the scroll wheel can get very easily gunked up and stop spinning freely. If you stick a piece of tape on the wheel and then force it through it pushes out all the junk.

Yay... but also annoying that the conclusion is that the 4 is worse than the 3. Hopefully my 3 lasts until they make something better.

It seems illogical that someone would make the best mouse in the world but then follow it up with something bad.
 
I still have my MX2 as my daily driver and haven't had a day's trouble. Was looking to get the new MX4 but, after reading the issues with the new model, I think I'll stick with old Gertie!

It could be very subjective. But as my first Master MX I was not impressed with the 4. And now having tried the 3S I am convinced the 4 was a poor decision.
