Hi there
Before you read this long thread, please note that most of you are probably more tech-savvy than me :erm:
I mostly use the net from home to skype my girlfriend. About a week ago, we started using skype call but I noticed that it was using so much data. About 8 or 9 hours used up 900 MB! I did some research and discovered that it's only supposed to use like 40MB an hour so I suspect I've got a trojan virus chowwing up my bandwith.
I make use of the internet via Vodacom bundles. I bought a friend's used cellphone (Samsung u700 I think) about a year ago and use a usb cable to connect my pc to the net. So all I did was get a vodacom sim card and buy bundles as this was easy and simple to do. I live on the Cape Flats where's there's relatively poor coverage so I'm on a GPRS connection at about 230kbps speed. I'm looking to get a better and more cost-effective connection. What would any of you tech fundies out there recommend? I've been on a few sites like iburst and neotel. The former provides what they call "poor" coverage (up to 50kbps, download 1mb in 3 mins) while the latter gives no coverage at all. This was disappointing coz' I'd prefer a wireless option and these were recommended by a friend.
Then I did a little browsing on adsl. SAOL and cybersmart has fairly decent deals but adsl requires a telkom line (we have an existing telkom pre-paid line in use) and takes like a month to install. uurrrggh! What should I do? I'd like to avoid having to get a modem and waiting on telkom to hook me up, but I also want a fast, cost-effective connection with little hassles.
Please please advise me what to do.
Thanks so much
