I live in the dip in Parkhurst, Johannesburg and the best connection type I get is EDGE/GPRS - super frustrating.

Does anyone know of a good antenna booster for mobile broadband, or a company that supplies/installs such boosters?

Be prepared to be disappointed - your Edge issue may be related to the tower in your area and it's capabilities more than your antenna. Hopefully a boost will allow you to tag another mast, but I doubt it. I'm no GSM expert tho.

First try with a DIY antenna to test before wasting money.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong!! but this is a load of kak, Tried it didn't even bump up the signal with one bar

Your link is broken btw

Oops, it's now fixed. It worked really well for me. I now have a consistent -87dBm signal. Without the corner reflector it's in the -105dBm to -97dBm range. The other advantage is that it allows you to switch to a less crowded tower by rotating the corner reflector.

You must be doing something wrong if it's not making a small difference at the very least. What's your RSSI values?

Read the first post in this thread and download MDMA. MDMA is an awesome little program which can give you a more accurate indication of your signal strength. It also gives you the ID of the tower you are connected to, which can be quite useful. Remember that the corner reflector is directional, so for it to work you need to point it into the direction of a tower. It takes some playing around and rotating the corner reflector to find the exact direction of the best tower in your area.

Ok so the lower your value the better?

I get a -79dBm signal with my MTN Huawei E220 this modem also reacts better with the antenna, but still only edge, outside the house i get a strong 3G signal??
