Hello,

Are there any forums like mybroadband.co.za but rather for networking professionals in South Africa (to discuss technical issues about network administration)?

Thank you in advance.

Discuss it here man. What do you need to know?

Better idea.... support mybroadband instead of being rude to mister rpm and asking on his forum for another forum

There aint nothin ya can't discuss on these here forums!! ya hear :)

Seriously though there is a whole section in these forums dedicated to PC hardware and software. There is also a section for online security which concerns most network admins as well. You should find anything you need over here.

Hi,

This forum seems like for both admins and non-technical people (users). I would like to find something more technical. But spending some time with google didn't give me anything better then mybroadband.co.za. It seems like SA is lacking such resources, isn't it?

Def not lacking in such resources... MyBB is the best forum to discuss pretty much anything. Technical or non-technical, there will be someone here who will know and respond.

Dude just ask here, i can guarantee you there are many professionals here

Thanks. But anyway, any alternatives? Something more dedicated? Isn't there anything else, for ISP's, *nix professionals, Cisco specialists, programmers, etc.

so you say MyBB is the only such resource, isn't it?

Why do you need anything more dedicated... This site is pretty much dedicated to those type of things, as there are specific areas for them.

Have you considered using the search function on this forum? I am pretty sure you will find what you are looking for. Have you considered starting an actual thread deciated to one of these subjects as an acid test?

What you have done here is ask for advice, it was given and you have come back and said you don't think anyone here fits the bill, and neither does this forum.

You are currently in off topic though where you will find mostly non-technical subjects. There is a forum dedicated to ISPs here, Cisco has been discussed in depth as well, programmers are aplenty on tis forum etc. Go here and check the other forums or use the search within google function function as well.

You have come to the right place. I don't see why you keep denying it without trying...

I think you answered your own question here. If you are finding mybb by searching for your required terms, then surely that should ring a few bells? One would think that an IT literate person would figure this out.

What is it that puts you off using mybb if I can ask you that then?

I'm not denying it... let's say it's a kind of marketing research. I need to know as much resources as possible. You insist on the only one and nothing else. But I need to find the alternatives, they may be worse, but I need to know them.

In the IT discussion forum I see a lot of end-user things. But I need something concerned more with servers and client-server architecture. Imagine you're going to start an ISP. You need to speak with other ISP's more experienced. There are a lot of things to discuss... the billing system to use, networking equipment to choose, etc.

Simple answer:

All of the questions you pose will be answered here, have been dealt with before and this forum is full of representatives from ISPs, employees thereof and technically adept people.

Simply put, I don't know of any other resources in SA where you will have your questions answered. But then again, it is not my area of expertise. I highly doubt that a forum of "patriotic" forumites are going to refer you elsewhere though.

If you have questions, then post them on this forum. If this is market research, then start a market research thread and be open as to why you are asking the questions...

To be honest I also don't know of any other such resources in SA. Quite ironically these forums I believe were started because of the one idiot company (Telkom) who held us all back in this regard and this site has grown to become one of the largest IT resources in SA local Internet.

Dude, this is as good as it gets in as far as getting to a pool of IT Proffesionals.

You are right though, the Hardware section in the IT subforum is mostly desktop related stuff. I have tried a few network specific threads, like discussing Cisco vs Juniper and stuff, but the responses are usually not that much.
