Looking for a forum for network admins community

I must admit I do agree with the original poster. A forum for netadmins in SA would actually be a good thing. For troubleshooting I will always use the supplier's own forums, 99% of the time they are very active and monitored. However I would really like a general local discussion forum. The hardware and Software forum is not exactly the right place to discuss for example what software you will use to monitor a 15 000 node network and how you will deploy it.
 
I also agree with the original poster. It seems this forum used to be more focused on technical related stuff but recently the forum has turned more into a general off topic kind of forum. If you post something really technical it usually falls out of the new post section before someone really technical sees it.

It is still the best technical and networking related forum in SA so I will always use it and the off topic is great fun when you want to take a break.

In the IT discussion forum I see a lot of end-user things. But I need something concerned more with servers and client-server architecture. Imagine you're going to start an ISP. You need to speak with other ISP's more experienced. There are a lot of things to discuss... the billing system to use, networking equipment to choose, etc.

I agree that there is no forum for this, but at least ask the question! Do you even know how many people here are network admins/work for ISP's/security specialists/infrastructure specialists etc. The hardware/software section is full of end user problems, but there have been some good questions if you browse a bit further back. There are generally more end user questions/problems in the working/live environment anyway.

cos, if you were starting an ISP, why would your competitors wish to discuss the inner workings of their business on a dedicated forum with you? :confused:
 
think about it, the more people the better,

IMO its much better to be part of one forum then alot of small forums
 
To be honest I'm not going to start an ISP, but I'm working with ISP's all over the world. A community for admins is a normal thing. Yes, sometimes their companies are competitors, but this doesn't prevent admins from sharing their knowledge.

How about this solution: PM rpm or the mods and ask for a dedicated sub section here that is for in depth network admin type stuff? I have to agree that sometimes the General H&S section fills up quickly and your query may get overlooked.

There's a British site, EduGeek, that is for school and education admins, mostly UK based, but I think that fits more or less in the idea what you asked for.

I like the idea of a sub section for network admins, so if you pm rpm or the mods, you have my support. Maybe I should pm them myself lol
 
I tried to contact site admin but without any response (via the "Contact us" link on the bottom, and also via whois info about the website). Any suggestions?

No success. Where has the admin of this forum disappeared?
 
Sometimes it takes some persistance to get hold of rpm...
