Hi all,

So I am in a situation now where I have two many mobile devices. At home its fine, running everything through the WiFi, but when I am not at home, I need a MiFi Device: BB and Galaxy Tab are fine, own SIM cards, but I need access on my Mac as well. So I've been looking around for a MiFi device, and one of the nicest ones seems to be the Huawei E535. I can't seem to find one easily, or something similar, other than on BoB (I am not a BoB fan).

Can someone please give some impressions on these devices, which are better/not, and where in the retail chain I can get one?

Thanks

You can tether through the Galaxy tab no? Otherwise an 8ta or CellC dongle should work fine.

use your macbook as mifi device. get a 3g usb modem and enable internet connection sharing on your macbook -> settings --> sharing and tick internet sharing box choosing to share USB modem with devices connected to airport.

I got the Huawei E586B on friday, but I havent used it yet so feedback will be forthcoming during the course of the week. I got mine online https://www.nivo.co.za/#buy~huawei.e586.3g.wi.fi.mobile.hotspot~p31119, though its out of stock at the moment (and the picture is different, but the specs are the same).

Reasons why I bought this one, is that yes, I can use my phone as a hotspot, but a couple of times I ran that flat while I was on wifi. So a dedicated device will help with staying online for longer. 5 hours can make a difference :) Its a neat looking device too and tiny, its smaller than my Iphone.

I could also add that I dont have to worry about connectivity like other usb models. So I can easily use this with my tablet or iPhone (if I so choose).

I am looking for a standalone device. I have tethered through the Galaxy Tab, but for me it doesn't make sense to deplete a device's battery in order to provide network to another :)
Also, the whole idea is not to have a dongle plugged into the Mac, as it takes up a USB port.
With a standalone with the Tab and Mac on the same network, I can use Kies Air, no cables :)

I'll have a look at the two devices mentioned, thank you!

So I decided to go with the Vodafone R205 WiFi Modem (rebranded Huawei 586 model). The replacement for that is the E5331, but WAY more expensive.
