looking for a MMOG/RPG worth playing!

Im new to MMOG/RPG and im looking for something worth playing... games i've enjoyed:

RPG
Morrowind,
Fable for its nice combat system, there were a lot of nice ideas there but somehow it lacked the substance of Morrowind & Oblivion
Oblivion,
the Jedi Knight Series (nice combat system),

FPS / Sim:
Sturmovik,
Freelancer,
Battlefield - Vietnam,

i know im not going to find something online that is going to amaze me like Oblivion or Morrowind... and i dont invest much time in gaming just looking for something fun for a group of us... any sugggestions?
 
Uhh.... I can only think of a few that I've played and enjoyed...

Rappelz - it's a fun F2P MMORPG... mindless after a few weeks of playing, but lots of fun :P (http://rappelz.potato.com)
GuildWars - a huge favourite amongst most people, buy it in store, never have to pay again :P Unless you want the stand-alone expansions.
And of course there's World of Warcraft - everyone knows that lol...

Uhmm... but if you're into offline games, give the Gothic series a shot... Gothic 3 was recently released, it's an amazing RPG. Knights of the Old Republic is also a great RPG :P

And that's me out of ideas... Oh, and the Fallout series.. All hail Fallout :P

Er... yeah, I'm done, out of ideas :P Oo, and Neverwinter Nights... Ok, I'm really out of ideas now... Well, not really, but I'll shut up now :P
 
Yeh i played the KOTOR series... didnt like the combat so much, also why i only played WoW to level 24 - the constant need to kill boars, spiders and other litl critters and the KOTOR-like combat system got tiresome

Played neverwinter - it was ok, also played Sacred which was fun for a while the huge amount of armor and weapons and the ability to mod them was pretty cool, but the story and some of running back and forth around the world got a little irritating

i guess morrowind and oblivion spoiled me somewhat - gothic 3 - i never played any of the gothic games, whats gothic 3 like???

digression - what im actually looking for is something i can play with a group of about 7 friends - most of us have played a good number of really good games, 3 of us have played WoW, looking for something to play together, just looking for something more... well just more!
 
lol... I'm not a fan of Morrowind/Oblivion... In my opinion Oblivion tried to be like Gothic, but ehh, that's just my opinion.

Gothic and Morrowind are similar in some aspects, but, well, Gothic's always just felt more "real" and indepth and meaningful. I still remember in Gothic 2, there's a part where you need to run past a horde of orcs just to get to the castle in the middle of one area lol... Nothing beats running yer arse off and having your heart race and hearing that orc's axe nearly slice yer head off :P Or, for that matter, running yer arse off for the first time trying to find the way into the castle roflmao... Ahh... good memories :)

The Gothic series is my all time favourite game EVER!!! :P But, again, that's just me and my opinion :P
 
ok so Gothic 3 on the list of games to play when i get back from holiday... does it support multiplayer?

i think there is a huge gap for multiplayer rpg's - there's something about being part of a party of buddies, sword and shield over the shoulder, heading into a small town after having taken down the local bandits that is somehow satisfying... almost as satisfying as getting into a rage and slaughtering the town folk and plundering their goods when they cant pay up for the services... har har har

now MMOG's which one to play
 
If you don't mind old games get yourself get yourself the Baldur's Gate box set. You get BG 1 + it's expansion and BG2 + it's expansion. Brilliant series. It's the reason I am an rpg fan boy.

Gothic 3 is also good but remember install all your patches even then it has lots of bugs but without the patches it will be very very frustrating and don't try if you are running vista and an nvidia 8 series card it won't work.

Kotor series,NWN 1 and 2 are also good. Morrowwind is a good one.

Didn't like oblivion felt it was too much towards a console style of game play.
 
The Answer to All Your Questions

Something to check in on... I know it only comes out in October, but do yourself a favour and go and look at Age of Conan : Hyborian Adventures.

This looks awesome. It's a DirectX 10 game (not purely, so the older rigs will run it), made by a very capable company. The game is currently in Beta testing.

The game creators have based the world on the author of the Conan series' books. They have aimed to target a more mature audience than WoW, (btw, I got to lvl 32 before the incessant "Kill 3 of those" and "Collect 17 of these" got too much for me, so I know where you're coming from) and above all, in one of the interviews with the game creators, they specifically say they aim to achieve where WoW failed in quest diversity.

There are a load of races and classes, you can own and develop land, you can control armies, you can have servants, and you can you go out questing with a bunch of mates.

If this game is going to be as good as I think it is, WoW won't know what's going to hit them...

The two MMORPG I am waiting for is Warhammer and Hellgate:London (though Im not sure if it can be classified as MMORPG)
 
the hamster has it - age of conan looks awesome - i think that may be the game... busy downloading the previews
 
Has anybody tried Final fantasy 11 ? I`m a huge ff fan , but i`m too scared ff11 will suck like all other mmorpg ...So really now ..HOW IS IT ? is there actually a good story like offline games ? is there good magic spells and missions ? or is it just like all other mmorpg that people just stand around and talk and nobody really does any real missions..
I hate a game that feels "gostly" in that way..

Yeh i played DS 1 & 2 - but much like NWN i found it very linear and limiting... as opposed to say Sacred (no laughing) which ok it had its ver linear story, but had huge scope for running around on your own mission... also enjoyed the huge amount of items in Sacred and the combo's you could develop.

dont know the other two - i got out of gaming for a long while and only started again with oblivion... just started downloading AO to get a feel for MMORPG's before the release of AoC in October - cant wait!
