Please could someone from Openweb take the time to explain the packages to me. I am looking for a month to month account... I am interested in the unshaped accounts... how do these differ from standard IS accounts which i assume are unshaped? OK - they go via fibre... but what kind of speeds are these accounts?
Thanks!

Unshaped - 3GB
R389 Unshaped, FIBRE International 3GB ADSL account

Unshaped - 4GB
R489 Unshaped, FIBRE International 4GB ADSL account

Unshaped - 5GB
R619 Unshaped, FIBRE International 5GB ADSL account

Im not from openweb but as far as i know the fact that it go's over fiber means your international latency is lower. The speed would be what ever your line speed is.

I would have thought that...

But... how do they get to resell 3Gb unshaped accounts?
I thought the SAIX accounts started at 4Gb... Also... 4Gb unshaped from telkom is alot more expensive.

Unless it's UUNET?

Hey EdRobinson,

Thank you for your interest in OpenWeb.

Our Business Class Unshaped Gaming ADSL packages run over the brand new Verizon Business ADSL network.

They offer pings to Google of about 280 to 320ms.

ALL ports are TOTALLY unshaped, and the accounts run at the speed of your ADSL line.

We do offer them per calendar month, with not contracts, and a 10 day cancellation period before month end.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards
MrBEEP

"MrBeep" is the Openweb guy, PM him.
EDIT: Doh! parallel post :p

If you're looking for unshaped, I don't know what your bandwidth requirements are, but WebAfrica has Prepaid unshaped Saix bandwidth at about R125/Gb.

Can anyone compare unshaped SAIX vs Unshaped Verizon? Anyone wanting to post stats?

Please confirm, Mr Beep

Verizon = UUNet(SA)?
Thanks!

Have just tested this unshaped account and it is bril. Near perfect voice quality to SA & US - unnoticeable latency. Now this is what I have been looking for.

UUNet Intl. no longer exists as it has been bought by Verizon.

Verizon accounts tent to perform on par with SAIX unshaped accounts.

The wholesale cost of Verizon bandwith is higher than SAIX unshaped accounts, obviously this is due to the fact that Telkom (SAIX) owns the infrastructure than Verizon rents.

The only really nice feature of Verizon accounts is the fact that you can get them on a per MB basis.

Uh...

So how does anyone get an unshaped a/c from SAIX for R389 (Openweb's Verizon price)?
Their (SAIX - Telkom SA) 4Gb option costs R679.00. Openweb's 4Gb Verizon product is R489.
In fact, you can get 5Gb Verizon from Openweb for R619.00. All with 5 concurrent connections.

Please explain.

We sell SAIX unshapped accounts for R125.00 per GB, and data you don't use carries over to the next month.

We sell Verizon unshapped accounts for 11c per MB which is obvloiusly slightly cheaper than SAIX.

However from a wholesale cost point of view, the SAIX accounts are cheaper per GB than the Verizon accounts.

Well...

I see - thanks

I just got to say that I am Extremely impressed with the Verizon setup.

I am d/l p2p at a total of 40kbps and listening to 64k internet radio at the same time.

Just one question Mr Beep - is there an SMTP server I can use? I normally use gmail but cant for some reason right now.
