Looking for a replacement laptop

Hmm, if there's one thing a ROG notebook should not do it's the heat thing (unless of course you want to work on the bed or something and the vents get blocked).

indeed that is the case, I have both a cooling mat and a cooling stand for it so in normal use its fine but sitting on a chair watching tv and 9gagging and it gets damn hot.

Either way its almost 2 years old so time for it to go to the laptop farm

Which ROG Notebook is it?
(I'll take it :p)

They usually need a good clean every year or so, those massive air vents get clogged up after a while.

Hi

My laptop was stolen over the weekend :

Dell XPS17 702x (i7 2670QM processor)
1 x 500Gb hdd + 1 x 256Gb SSD
3d screen
16Gb RAM

I'm looking for a replacement, but the above unit is EOL. Can anyone recommend something in the same range (especially that it can hold 2 hdd's)? Insurance will be paying out about R27k.

I'd suggest having a look at:

MSI GT70 17.3" @ R24252
Samsung NP700 17.3" 3D @ R17248

Or you could order a similar Alienware (they are great laptops, after all) from www.alienware.co.za. I'd personally go for the M17x R4 Mid Range, fit in the extra 8GB RAM and use a 256GB mSATA SSD for the boot drive.

If locally available Macbooks didn't top out with 8GB RAM I'd have suggested one and running Boot Camp instead on the 15" Retina model, but you probably don't want that kind of hassle.
