I am looking for a hosting provider, that supports ASP.net, PHP (SQL or MS SQL) etc, one I can find is Webafrica, its R99 which is quite expensive for personal use. Considering just want to mess around practise web development, [-]earn money from Adsense[/-] and so fourth.

Can anyone recommend a good (read: cheap) provider?

Well Afrihost can offer you 300MB disc space (Bronze Home) for R29 or R750MB disc space (Silver Home) for R59. Both have ASP.Net (.Net Framework 4 is available). From what I can tell, they host locally, because the latency is great, FTP uploads are quick, and the downloads are super fast.

I moved from WebAfrica to Afrihost a while back and for me (not trying to speak for anyone else here), the uptime has improved substantially, and their support for .Net developers is fantastic (if you have any tricky questions, Edward is definitely the guy to speak to... he's very useful when you have a tricky setup).

From a dev point of view, where you may need them to help you change settings in a shared environment, i'd strongly recommend. I've moved about 5 sites across to them so far.

Well, I am just got off the phone with Mweb, and they say that they do support ASP.net - So I have taken the liberty to sign up.

I had a look at Afrihost and well I like their offer, reason I am signing up with Mweb is because its uncapped.

Although if they don't process the order correctly for the third time, I am going with Afrihost. (its like they don't want new customers)

Awesome, good luck with your development. Perhaps come back here in a month and let us know how the experience was. I'd like to know as i've never hosted with them.

Hi Xzib1t,

We offer all that you are looking along with unlimited bandwidth. In addition we have IIS 6 & IIS 7 to choose from. Let us know how it goes and feel free to give us a shout should you require more information.

I would rather go with these okes if I was the thread starter mweb has some major custom support issues

Hi,

I recommend you use GoDaddy hosting. (www.godaddy.com)

Their shared hosting plan (the cheapest one) is under R350 for 1 year which is pretty good considering how expensive web hosting is in SA.

They have PHP and ASP Plans (you pick which one you want.

If you want to buy from SA, MWEB has uncapped space, uncapped bandwidth and a free .co.za domain for R19 per month. You could try them too but i dont like that you only get 50MB of database space.

I heard Elitehost also offers cheap shared hosting.
