Hi everyone..

I'm starting a company next year, and I was wondering if anyone here would like to make some extra cash?

We need a website design, so I don't mind if it's freelance or through your respective company.

Basically, there needs to be a flash version and html version (choice from loading screen)

We have an idea of how it needs to look, which i will divulge once I have an interested party :)

It needs about 5 tabs (abous us, contact us etc etc etc) and an awesome front page.
I am assuming you will need advanced flash skills, because the vision behind the website is quite intensive.

Budget range is approximately 6k.

If you are a website designer, or happen to know of one willing to work under that budget, please send me a PM :)

Thanks a lot!

LOL! Yeah, you'd basically get a decent HTML version ONLY for the 6k... Good luck! :D

EDIT: The IEC set a new benchmark for website prices - I won't do your site for less than 3mil...

sure that 3mil includes few servers - hopefully....

I was doing websites for ppl last year as extra income, I was charging around R1500 (for a Joomla site), I did about 3 and then started turning down the work as ppl don't realise how much work actually gets put into making a decent site, I now work solely on my own sites.

I'm in the same boat as you right now. I either need to up my prices (+- R4000 for a rather static site) or stop doing it completely. Everyone thinks a website is as easy as typing it all in MS Word and saving as HTML...

Another thing - a potential client had to reject my quote (of R7500 for a semi-online shop), not because I was too expensive, but because the guy who screwed up the development (or lack thereof) in the first place refused to divulge the domain / hosting details until he received full payment for the "work" he did. Suffice to say, it was probably the crappiest website I've EVER seen and the "designer" is now going to get involved in a court-case...

but adding a button is just that, so all buttons and related is just *adding* them and then the are autowired ;):D

-how much pages did the R7500 person wanted ?

I'm in the same boat. decided to focus only on my own sites. people expect you to design sites for next to nothing!
Not worth the trouble imo. I was charging R2000(jooomla site) but when ever i gave the price it sounded like i wanted 20 000:D

Yeah +1 to that dude....People just dont get what goes into developing a site..

I undercharge quite often - i dunno, maybe it's just me but it's quite easy peasy for a basic html site....

+- 10 Hours

I can understand the need for forums, the need for databases, the need for a Shopping cart system, etc, etc...but NEEDING flash?

Exactly. I HATE Flash sites. Mostly, the app takes way too long to load and the navigation (paired with all the animations and sounds) is too slow. I prefer a nice looking site with images WHERE NECESSARY - with no Flash.

Data-driven websites are the way of the future - even my dead-standard websites I design based on XML / XSLT templates. Menus are completely dynamic with user-controls swapped out for the page content. It also makes maintenance afterwards a breeze... :D

@Fern9do, Keeper & Grimspoon:

The key is that people don't understand the role of a website designer or architect. The next time they complain about the price, ask them for a quotation from a building architect to draw up plans for a granny-flat on their property...
