as genetic said, try carb.. and i wish you goodluck at trying to get it for that price.. if you get it at 500 bucks, you scored and absolute bargain.. 8gb ddr4 2400 sticks are going for around 900 on carb and brand new, you are looking at around 1600 a stick..

Why is DDR4 laptop ram so expensive, R1600 for 8Gb new is extreme?

there is a shortage of RAM due to the major players having issues with production of it.. (i stand corrected on the exact details and reason, as i read this months ago..)

The pricing i mentioned is not for laptop ram but, desktop.. OP didn't mention which, so i defaulted to desktop..

So laptop ram will be even more expensive?

(i use wootware for pricing) surprisingly not.. i imagine this may be down to laptops already coming preinstalled with ram, less upgrades taking place after sale, so in general there is less demand for it versus the desktop side..

I checked there now and the cheapest laptop DDR4 8gb is R1264
 
Way expensive, i've never paid more that 500 per stick in my life, there's this one guy on junkmail advertised ddr4 2400 8gb stix for 500 bucks will take mobo with to test, i'm going to give him a try, if he's legit, will let you guys know how it goes, but he only back after the long weekend.

Many ringing alarm bells for me so I would have just avoided it if it were me.. but, hope it works out for you none the less..
